  1. I think he meant they go down every decade across the board, not per individual. If that’s the case where’s there report to back this up?
  2. Could have been an expensive day Mick!
  3. I've turned up to do a couple of Picus tests now where I was greeted with an hours worth of Ivy stripping I wasn't informed about, or other obstacles that make it impossible to get around the tree. If someone isn't familiar with the process then they could easily overlook something, like the tree being flush against a wall for example.
  4. Yeah you could, if the roots are exposed use a resistograph
  5. Only 1cm bit that’s on the assumption the guy who did it last time was accurate. one of us was out on the position of north that’s for sure ?
  6. I don’t believe so. You are limited by the amount of sensors you have but even then you can set them up in different configurations. I’m not sure if readings become less accurate the further the sound waves have to travel though. Good question
  7. Its how uniform the line is that makes me suspect it was something other than a graft.
  8. Not that I noticed
  9. Thats what i'm leaning towards
  10. Did the Beech tree Picus test yesterday. It appears to have what looks like an old graft wound round the base but I’m not entirely convinced. Any suggestions as to what else it might be?
  11. I carried out a Picus test yesterday on a mature Beech tree with a large Ganoderma bracket. The tree was previously tested 6 years ago and the client wanted to know if the decay has progressed. Interested to view the results of the tests together. You can see the area covered by the decay hasn't extended by a great margin, however the decay has increased significantly in the already affected area. This first test was carried out November 2013 Second test, July 2019 The tree has been regularly reduced in light of the decay present. With the ongoing maintenance of the tree along with a significant buttress root formation I believe this tree can continue to stand for a few more years to come as yet. Contact me if you are interested in Picus testing. Based in Suffolk but prepared to travel for multiple tests. [email protected] or 07801 923740 few images of the tree
  12. People moan about them but I actually used to enjoy working on them. Love how big tops glide to the floor horizontally. Can be a pain to get up if not wearing spikes though.
  13. I can attest to that. I've put on quite a few pounds since stopping work, whereas I never carried an ounce of fat previously. Its not a good look
  14. Its an epidemic! I remember when i first went to America some 21 years ago the first thing that struck me was how many overweight people there were. Now, its basically not much different in the UK
  15. I consider that more of a mullering than a reduction
  16. Closest I came to making a reduction video. Old and low quality
  17. reductions don't make particularly exciting videos!
  18. Yes the generic ones are broke, been looking into that most of the day
  19. Well.... Part of it is due to the 'youth of today' for sure, I mean who wants a manual labour job these days? But lets consider another aspect that rarely gets considered....US! With very few exceptions, most tree surgeons seem to be of a similar ilk and share very similar character flaws. Maybe we expect too much. Discuss
  20. Same. One of the main reasons I gave up trying to run my own gig, couldn't deal with it. I had a couple of good lads on and off but generally it was just a nightmare. Just about every company I subbed to was the same. With the odd exception, staff was usually the biggest headache. And the bigger you get the worse it is. I spoke to one company, not massive in business terms, but they had 25 people work for them. They once told me there wasn't a single day of the year when there wasn't at least one person off for one reason or another.
  21. Back end of the tooth
  22. Literally everyone!
  23. You're on the wrong site i'm afraid Charles. No professional is going to be interested in coming and cleaning up that mess for you for free. Best bet would be on a Facebook local site...but even then, good luck.
