  3. Thats what I tell the missus. I don't like the heat though, I think a log burner would have me roasting
  4. Never quite got my head round how the AR50's and the like went out of fashion. Sure they were crap, and sounded ridiculous, and we basically a dressed up scooter, but when I was 17 no male would be seen dead riding an actual scooter!
  5. Funnily enough I was thinking about one for my outside office i'm building. Think it will be too small for a wood burner.
  6. I wasn't keen on it the first time I smelled it, but after a few days you don't notice it at all
  7. Must have been due to all the sweet-talking and general compliments earlier in the thread
  8. Tried gck Treeworks?
  9. End of an era! You replaced it already?
  10. Ambitious
  11. Unless you’re an academic (which most of us types aren’t) trying to learn them all at once is futile. What worked for me was aiming to learn one new one a day. Pick a tree from whatever site you are working on during the day that you don’t know, look it up and read about it. Long process but it works. Took me 23 years but I’m proud to say that I know at least 7 off by heart now
  12. Not unless you are doing written tree reports etc
  13. Out of those the only one I have used is the FSI. Compared to some of the other 20hp machines I have used without the rotating feature its an awesome machine. I have only used the push along version but I think the hydraulic option would definetly be worth looking at spending the extra cash on. Not sure how much weight it would add to the unit, but I believe it would still be liftable. 2 strong men can lift the push along version onto the back of a transit without too much bother.
  14. No commercial company is probably going to touch you with less than 5m pl, that should really be the starting point.
  15. Yeah get Steve Bullman to do it ? https://Arbtalkmedia.co.uk
  16. How about a sheet of Perspex over the cage, and then just tip the buck up a little when you’re chopping. Problem solved
  17. That brings back memories
  18. Call people up. Once you have a couple customers word will soon get around. People are always looking for decent freelancers
  19. The best lumberjack athletes in the country will take part in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Championship in August as they smash through six logs in a matter of seconds using a combination of axes, saws and sheer strength. Returning to BBC Countryfile Live at Blenheim Palace on Saturday 3rd August for the fourth consecutive year, the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Championship will see top logger sports athletes battle against each other in six challenging disciplines; Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck, Standing Block Chop, Springboard and Hot Saw. To take home the title of the best TIMBERSPORTS® athlete in the UK, competitors are awarded maximum points for the fastest time and must display power, precision and endurance in all six disciplines. Competitors will include four-time British champion Elgan Pugh, who is aiming to win his fifth consecutive STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Championship. Visitors to the STIHL stand are invited to watch the action unfold, and then try out TIMBERSPORTS® for themselves with the brand-new Virtual Reality Experience, which gives people the chance to virtually test their skills on the TIMBERSPORTS® Stock Saw discipline. A competition will be running throughout the event and the person with the fastest time will take home their very own STIHL cordless chainsaw and Personal Protective Equipment, worth over £550 RRP in total. Spike Milton, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Global Sports Director and former British Champion, said: “The British TIMBERSPORTS® Championship is one of the most exciting live sports you can watch this summer. All of the athletes will be fiercely competitive, so it’s sure to be edge-of-your-seat action from start to finish, with the competitors pushed to their limits during each challenging discipline. They have been training all year for this and I wish them all the best of luck – may the best man win!” The 2019 Rookie Championship will also take place at BBC Countryfile Live on Sunday 4th August, which is for athletes who are under 25. The top eight rookies from around the country will compete against each other across four of the six TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines, accumulating points in each round based on their placing in each discipline. The athlete with the most points at the end of the fourth round will be crowned the 2019 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Rookie Champion.
