Already bumped congestion charge up in london and fares gone up on tubes along with blocking all the roads so can cycle into everyone! yet bicycles have little revenue return.

Im all for more cycling  obesity is a huge issue and most car jorneys are under 5 miles?.

Copehagen has shit loads of cyclists commuters

Quote

Every day 1.2 million kilometres (0.75 million miles) are cycled in Copenhagen, with 62% of all citizens commuting to work, school or university by bicycle; in fact, almost as many people commute by bicycle in greater Copenhagen as do those who cycle to work in the entire United States.

Odd how the protesters seem to be ridiculed on here - they are braver than I am.

if by braver, you suggest foolhardy. Fair enough. I've been stirring but trying to positively. Public spaces like forums can be about airing options. But I'm only a retired machine stoker so don't have a lot to lose ... except the whole country going down into recession...

Tree folk are necessarily resourceful which sometimes means questioning the trust you put in the usual ways of doing things. One prob we face is what is happening in the wider world and how that'll affect what we do locally. Most of us will naturally be cautious except perhaps some notorious non-arb arbtalkers ...

Nope I mean braver - going out and standing up for what you believe in [yes I appreciate not all the people protesting will have motives as pure as this] is brave.

Also instead of little signs and hand clapping - how about giving the NHS something more meaningful like a pay rise, less admin and better working conditions? Regardless of COVID or not...

The NHS arose following a conflict the conclusion of which changed the mood of the country toward  the  need to look after each other. I grew up as the welfare state progressed and have always been grateful for it, mind there were problems. The money spent on it probably did affect economic growth compared with more pushy regimes. Recently we have elected governments that wish to grow the economy, to their peer group's advantage, at the expense of care. There is little I can do to influence this government's wish to go down the american route of health care other than stand out there and clap to send them a message.

This whole thing looks to be all about control - get the population used to the idea that they can be locked down.

Yes this is actually on top of a raft of leglisation since new labour's control freakery to "manage" the bulk of the population and is very worrying.

We'll have to see if this becomes a more regular thing. Also what about all the stopped operations/depression/mental illness/domestic abuse/loss of income/loss of businesses? There are very nice smart figures on COVID all neat and tidy on the worldometer - it will be harder to measure the downside of this lock down so neatly.

I agree here too, its absolutely about control now. Its been a perfect opportunity for our, and other governments to use this 'pandemic' as a data gathering exercise. There will be whole departments extrapolating this data for future population control. ''For our own safety''. And the people will welcome it with open arms. :(

Gone are the days of hoolies on MayDay marches. Having a voice and being heard are very different. Besides more pressing things to worry about

Currently listening to Sturgeon giving her daily propaganda talk. I’m more than ever convinced that she is totally deluded in regards the value of the drastic measures being taken versus the actual reality of the worries for most working class people in particular small business and self employed wondering where this is all going. Protect the NHS she keeps saying. Hospitals other than Covid 19 units  are virtually deserted intensive care usage in Scotland less than 20% of capacity ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️
Tbe desire to hang onto the power and control this gives her is blatant.
