  2. *Puts on helmet to prepare for the inevitable collision with a brick wall* Firstly, the customer does not get an option wether to pay for aerial rescue provision/someone to rig for you. Climbing solo is generally frowned upon, and frankly you've nowhere near the experience to be messing about like that. You've stated that you have no comprehension of the strength of the ropes needed and the forces involved. This is a fairly considerable part of what your rigging course will teach you, if you listen. In the meanwhile, the candidate curriculum for the rigging course is freely available on the City & Guilds website. Download it and take a look. The Technical Guide for Rigging and Dismantling operations (TG3) is available as either an E-book or hard copy from the Arb Association website. This includes the up to date industry best practice and is largely what the Rigging course is based upon.
  3. Part of an ongoing woodland job recoppicing some old mainly hornbeam hedgerow stocks. This section has quite a deep and wide (thankfully dry) ditch behind it, backing onto a cultivated field. Some leaners will pull, some won’t. Anything sent into the ditch won’t pull out because it will prong into the bank. WQ and a handy oak tree and voila! Crane-tastic! IMG_1714.mov

  6. There is an old saying which indirectly tells about soil fertility. " Gold under gorse Bronze under bracken hunger under heather" so heather grows where the fertility is low, it has a way of locking all the available nitrogen into the plant. Bracken thrives where there is a bit of potassium, I often notice it along one of the trees we left as standing dead when it has fallen down and started to rot. Gorse grows where there is available potassium and Phosphorus and can make its own nitrogen as it is a legume. It's more nuanced than that in reality as there are lots of other things that influence but the old farmers knew a bit. Heath developed where much of the available minerals for growth had walked off the site into the farmers adjacent fields after a bit of free grazing.

  8. What’s causing the bolts to shear? Should be easily fixed. It’s not like the hydraulic pump has shit itself in the first week, it’s teething issues. From the way you’re going off on one it doesn’t sound like you’ve bought tons of new machines as you claim. This is a minor issue. You should try a Bobcat or Antonio Carrarro if you want issues!
  9. nope, not rick parfitt.
  10. Ring got forced back into the groove about 1/2 mm, I was surprised there was enough depth in the groove for that to happen.
  11. Plantations small or not small used to strim them, any varient of weedkiller will be poisionus to animals and can potentially get passed down , best thing is mechanical its only grass
  12. I don’t remember seeing one. Only recall loads of ladybirds, biting and a surfeit of greenflies often getting into the potato salad - couldn’t tell the difference between them and chopped parsley 🤣
  13. No I’ve not been Andy Im just actually popping down to see him now, vessel he’s on is in Aberdeen sheltering for Storm Amy coming in. I think anyone but more likely it will be tourists, accommodation he is building is spot on.
  14. Morning all, Heading north for a week to see daughter and her in laws. Wonder what the weather will bring.
  15. You can't ring for an appointment any more at our surgery . It all has to be done on line now . People kicked against it initially but it seems to be working smoothly now .

  17. Stihl released the 500i six years ago. They're the bollocks. Why aren't more saws injected by now?
  18. Did you rate it as a grinder though Josh? Pretty sure that’s the one Ross White had, and thought it was mentally good, possibly too good for the size/weight. Like an animal 8” chipper that weighed 400kg.
  19. I got let down last minute and am looking for someone with up to date (passed or refreshed within last 5 years) felling certificate (small trees is enough) and valid 1st aid+f. Job is in Cumbria, Duddon Valley starting on Monday 6th of October for 2 weeks. It's felling and processing Larch trees for future milling and peeling on site. Message me for details. Thanks Peter

  22. They're pretty simple machines. Mine jammed up the other day when a fork went through it but the overrun clutch on the PTO shaft saved the day. The product is fiddly to burn but you can really fill a stove up and it goes for a long time. It gets choked up on brash but it's a decent way of reducing bulk if you don't have a chipper

  25. Tried a pair of these on in store felt pretty good. Can anyone vouch for their long term comfort, any good with spikes? Any good for hiking as well- I know they’re stiff and a bit heavy Cheers
  26. A nice bag of ArbSurplus rope ends, most appear to be around 5m. Pair of saw lanyards, decent quality, made in UK.
  27. Cheers for them answers. I hadn't thought about roadsise to be honest Mark, I might get away with that in spring when tree work's quiet. Thanks for the tip about Chainsaw Bars UK too, I get most of my milling kit that way but since Brexit I pay big import duties on it. He's got a load of Manpa stuff too I've seen which might be useful. I would probably be able to justify the expense if I knew I could sell some work off the back of it. Carving more would be a good start. Cheers again for your help, I probably will give you a shout Mark next time I'm over visiting.
