Morning all, Swotty here, up with the lark. Going to Evesham to do a favour for a friend I have known for 62 years. Want to get round M6/M5 car park before too late. Bonus is doing a paid job for his neighbour. Have a good day everyone.

I've just decided: I'm not getting an Echo2511, as I've been tempted to do for a while, I'm getting the lightweight Stihl battery tophandle instead, the MSA161t. I already have the batteries and charger, so it'd be daft not to use them. Then... I'm swapping the bar on my much-loved MSA200 rear handle from the pokey little thing it comes with (same as on the 161) for something bigger, probably the same bar as the 220. I know a few people on here have done it... so I'm going to trawl through the same old threads I've read a dozen times before and get more of an idea of what bits to order (unless it crops up naturally in conversation here, which would be great). I'd like to do this because the 200 is great for dismantling, but I think I'd get more time on it before switching to a petrol saw with a beefier chain. It'd also make it a more capable chipper saw. Obviously this costs battery power, but with a 500 in it and a pair of 300 in backup, it really isn't a big deal. If necessary, I'd like the people with more time up trees than me to tell me why my plan is foolish. Thanks.

I've had every type of ladder known to mankind, but I must say the three legged Henchman type are the doggie's dangly bits. We recently posted piccies of a Leylandii hedge that we massacred, and it was one of those jobs which turned out to be much less of a chore than expected. Don't own a chipper, so carted almost all of the rubbish away.

I was seriously questioning my competence after this. Now to figure out if the Sugi bars are a dodgy run or not.

Could have been soooo much worse. Mower ( Husky Rider ) cut out and stayed put. One of the few occasions I've been glad of safety cut outs on it.

I'll echo going by the oil manufactures recommendation. A good quality oil at 50:1.

Surely one of the LBGTQSXFNWK+ letters stands for kiddy-fiddler, that rainbow is supposedly all-inclusive I thought? Perfect smoke for that job…

Pretty much all ART devices these days have 10 year lifespan for hardwear and replaceable wear parts. I'd expect the same from this. When I was climbing mostly MRT, I'd get 12-18 months from a ZZ before it was worn to the point of slippage. That was climbing daily with a thin rope and pulley friction saver, so the ZZ links took pretty much all of the weight. I thought that was pretty decent value.

I second that, Rowena are really good. Genuine products at a very good price. No name carbs and carb kits are hit and miss, I get plenty of poor running machines in for repair that have had aftermarket parts, they get swapped out for genuine or its not worth the time to try and make it work.

Use aspen or moto mix, then you can't go wrong... I'm shite at ratios also

Ash dieback - Different perspective?
Sviatoslav Tulin replied to Mark Bolam's topic in Tree health care
4 years ago I did pruning on ash with die back ,I just cut only branches badly affected and dead wood ,the tree still standing and look very well as I drive past it every second day ,so I can confirm some of the species can probably survive, sadly not many of them! But from now I will recommend to customers not to rush in to the removal, if tree looking more or less ok and they ready to have small financial risk to prune it correctly . -

Yeah thats what i am doing. Blocking out with petrol saws then doing all the rest with electric.

See how this idea works. The tube had a habit of slipping and moving when I lifted the bundle. P.S. Reusing the polyester cordage/strapping and clips with no issues or problems. Need to blag a stack of the plastic inner tubes from the silage wrap, I figure they should be perfect for the tubing. I have also started using a rachet strap, for added security when spiking and moving. I am actually shocked at the difference it makes, because no matter how tight I get the 3 sets of 15mm wide "Cordstrap" polyester I am using, as soon as I release the rachett, the bundle sags and deforms. So I need 40 or 50 rachet tensioners? But cost prohibitive IMHO.
