  1. I use Makita top handles all the time, the 18v for me is pruning and hedge work only, up to say 2" cuts. For logs you'd want the 36v. Sawing 6" logs I reckon you'd get a boot full done, when it's bigger wood the battery goes flat quicker. I have a 10" bar on mine, when it gets that size I switch to petrol.
  2. Bought that 372 then? How are you finding it?
  3. Given we weren't expecting the greenhouse half the time, whatever we can find around. Dumpy bags, tarps, ply, ground mats all good.
  4. I'd check the manual too, I looked at my Makita one and the lights are 1 light - 0 to 25% 2 lights - 25 to 50% 3 lights - 50 to 75% 4 lights - 75 to 100% Once it's at 1 light it won't really cut, sounds like yours. In fact heavy cuts not as good with 2 lights on. This seemed a bit counter intuitive as you can't see the difference between a full 100% battery and a 90% battery, but I guess if the top light was actually only for 100% then it might not turn on when the battery is a bit old.
  5. Murky day for a drive.
  6. Seems like they're steel according to Clearview site. If you have a plasma cutter could chop out back and weld a new patch in?
  7. One I did I found the leaves strip off by pulling down , then stems are pretty soft and cut easy with a silky. Chainsaw lower down. Leaves will tangle a chainsaw yes, don't attempt it.
  8. We had a Canadian guy over contracting, think he's from Montreal. The way he described it they worked a 9 month season, the other 3 hassle with snow, frozen gear, iced up chippers, etc. Just not worth trying to work in it.
  9. I've heard a similar story about a theft diesel from a generator, the people had to pay a huge clean up bill for the diesel spill.
  10. I've seen a few sprouting from low down, seems to make sense that the frost damage didn't get to the roots.
  11. Think about weather too, BC is wet but not as cold as say Montreal.
  12. Our parish council took about 2 years to get one done.
  13. I've not looked at one of these closely, the top handle has a small outlet and you get quite a bit more power from opening it up so i imagine as long as there's more hole area it'll help. Some people just drill a 6mm hole in the side of the exhaust.
  14. My question would be what's going to happen to the tree in another 25 years, plan around that.
  15. They cut a big flat on for the GRCS on the dropping Volvo video Rich posted the other day.
  16. Think this is the rear handled one he's doing so maybe that case is a different shape?
  17. The ISA system seems to make a lot of sense to me, some dependency on species and age is surely a good thing. Also like the earlier standard saying RPA can be shifted over a bit, that question came up a few weeks ago with a patio.
  18. I thought the 180 were German built and the 170 Chinese? Rumour only.
  19. I don't know where you are but round here so many eucs have just turned up their toes this winter you wouldn't be able to say whether it's anything to do with topping it or not. We have done a few removing the dead stems above, see what happens with the regrowth in a few years.
  20. Ah glad I didn't buy one then. I'll spend the money on beer instead.
  21. Sounds like you should invest in a pressure/vac tester. Will cost similar to sending it to someone to test and then you have it next time. Also I'd be surprised if paying someone to change the seals is economic but you seem prepared to spend time so have a crack yourself, otherwise its scrap anyway.
  22. I think getting everyone to agree that is utopian. We all knew the Tories spread loads of cash to their mates during COVID yet Boris remained incredibly popular with the public.
  23. Other thing about your log splitter is the motor starts under no load, so you don't have the worst case situation John is talking about above when the compressor melted.
  24. Field maple. Native, fast growing.
