Also pretty strange the flue damper makes no difference, it seems no air is coming in or going out. Or, put another way, something not adding up. -

I was booked to have wisdom teeth out 30 year ago but couldn't make the appointment, never have got round to it and listening to these tales I'm glad I didn't. Current dentist says let's take them out if we need to, not just in case. Likewise the temporary crowns I had put on after hockey stick at school are still there, not broke so don't need fixing.

My brother is a blacksmith part time, people in the village bring him things to re-handle. Problem is it's difficult to charge a proper rate for the time it takes, but it's good business to keep friendly with the locals so hes happy enough to do it.

Would they be? In my mind hickory is from the US and traditional shafts here would be ash.

I've got some plugs but never got round to planting them, if I recall my instructions said any hardwoods but 2 weeks after felling, no fungus already in the wood, not too thin or too thick. I had some cherry and apple lined up but they'll be too dry now.

I bought a timber garage from Passmores Portable Buildings 20 years ago, it's still in great condition. Roof is premade trusses so 4m span is well within range, they are a modular build so I'd have thought you can do what size you want.

Seems a lot of dead branches on the same side as the damage, I'd agree and just remove dead wood. Leave it a year or two and see how it goes, i suspect its struggling and removing live branches is removing ability to make food.

wet verses dry - chipping christmas trees

Stacking and unstacking Christmas trees sounds a right ball ache to me, I'd chip as you get them in. As above, got to find the right tree surgeon but ring round is free and you'll find someone who likes to do a bit for charity at Christmas.... -

He's not bothered here, kids still in bed. First time in nearly 20 years I haven't had to neck a bottle of beer, 2 mince pies and a carrot before breakfast.

Is it laminate or solid wood? I think it depends if it's been lacquered or oiled before, if it's just oil then Osmo do oils with stain in so pretty easy to darken gradually, any kind of varnish or lacquer and you probably need to sand it bare.

This all sounds a bit odd, there won't be a lot of smoke on a proper hot fire as it should be burnt up. Also your fire can't really be burning well with all that cold air going in the primary inlet. Sounds like a bad install to me, not enough draw on the flue. -
Tracked mewp might make it quicker too.

I guess it's on the threshold pricewise, cost of a merlo and heizohack, then what to do with all the chip - tractor, grain trailer etc. You're in for a few grand for all that kit plus a few guys to run it, which would pay for a climber with someone on the ground for a week. Looks a bit like they're in groups so you can do several from the same tie-in, I think not too bad a job if the drop zone is good, especially if you have a couple of climbers and couple on the ground.

Puzzling to me, the split wood looks a bit dark for willow lime or hawthorn. We have almost no sweet chestnut round here so I can't really compare, could be that.

Say you'll take softwood on the tip site, there's always conifer to get rid of.

I'd bid from current stuff Taylor Swift. I don't listen to her much, as far as I can tell she's not completely devoid of talent but it is baffling just how popular she is. Holding all of the top 10 US singles at the same time? Millions and millions of albums? Surely there's someone else writing songs?

My harness instructions specify new nuts and bolts, 6Nm, loctite 262 or 2701 when putting a new bridge on, these are permanent loctite types. Cost a few quid but I bought a bottle of 2701 for the job and have a small torque wrench, seems like it's not something to scrimp on if they go to the trouble of specifying like that. Makes you wonder if that guy had ever removed the bridge or if it was straight from Petzl.

My wife started sourdough in lockdown, the loaves got really good but not made one for a while - must encourage her to restart.

Petzl Avao sit harness is another cheaper option, no bridge though. Treehog is the most uncomfortable thing I ever tried on, if that was my first experience of a harness I probably wouldn't have made it up the first tree. He might be ok if he's smaller though.
