  1. Sad news. Take care Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. Get it out the woodland. Too humid. Nice wood. Good colour.
  3. Staining and bat droppings below crevices is an indicator. However rot stains too. I look for droppings. Even some experts I've spoken to have said it's not an exact science.
  4. Bristol tunnel party's and feeder rd/showcase warehouse party's. Oh the nineties were good
  5. I've travelled extensively with knives, machetes, axes, bill hooks and spear guns on planes. As long as you go to the fragile/oversize items or have them in "hold" luggage, I've never had any issues. Most airlines, ferrys etc will state they will not allow chainsaws on board. However if it's drained, bar and chain removed, " it's a small engine". If you have a chainsaw winch then it's for that... Might work
  6. Very informative. Good video. Thanks Rob.
  7. For that budget I'd buy a stihl 051 or 056super. You could probably buy two saws, and a new bar and chain. No worries about power! Old,heavy and often without chain breaks, so not for site work.
  8. You're a professional! You have a specialist education and training! As a bona fide contractor, the client can "ask" you to do a job a certain way. But you have the final say. Explain to the client nicely, and often they will respect your informed opinion. But I also know what it's like to "really need that job". I think jake has a very valid point. Good luck mate.
  9. It's some sort of international women's rights day today. So I thought I'd reflect on my own beloved work sector and ask where are the female arborists? Is this a male dominated industry and why? Should we be making more efforts to balance this? Be very interested to hear people's opinions. Thanks.
  10. Get a catalogue, work out buying it new price. Change your pants. Aspen and insurance suddenly seem so cheap! But I understand job/wage security issues too. Good luck
  11. 08s 80s? 009 x2 80/90s? One orange,one grey 021c 1995 025 2000 031 80s? Ms440 2006 051 80s 056super 80s 075 1978 Ms880 2016 Partner r14t 80s? And I ordered an msa 200 today
  12. A stihl 261 is a good small saw (14krpm) or my go to saw is a 440. Having said that I'm buying a stihl msa200 electric saw tomorrow as I'm getting tired of breathing my exhaust fumes Thought about electric?
  13. For a proper granberg mill see rob.d on this site. Or try user: opal286 on eBay for a good quality Chinese copy. Get someone with a grinder to change your chain to ten degrees and grind the depth gauges perfectly! 0.5-0.6 mm for a small saw. All teeth the same length!!! Or again see rob.d and buy a proper ripping chain. Having tried most chains and angles 0-35. Good luck it's a lot of fun. Get a respirator/top quality dust mask Lots of dust and exhaust fumes. Love it!
  14. Laser sights for chainsaws!!!!! Oooh.... That's new
  15. Just found the catalogue online seems almost identical to 2016:( Was hoping for larger electric saw. Anyone know the release date in the uk?
  16. Various possibilities as aforementioned, other variables are wood grain, chain slipping on the bar and differing hardness/dry areas. I've had the same issues.
  17. Well spoken article. I buy timber for cash on delivery!
  18. Loving my job/work/career/lifestyle!!! It's all life. With nature
  19. Thanks for posting this. Another huge avenue of learning opens. Will be buying a microscope this year
