Well this project has finally come together and is being exhibited from this evening. I supplied the kiln dried bog oak, bailey resin works transformed the timber in to a stunning 10’ x 5’ picture frame with epoxy resin.

Use .404 you should use full throttle nearly always

Use full comp full chisel. be very accurate setting your depth gauges. Go gently through the areas you know have hard knots. 👍

Yes, but only 2 screws as camber isn’t a problem.👍

I’ve often used a ladder for more than the first cut. Especially handy if the first cut isn’t entirely flat. Also when using big mills, 80”+ it’s much easier to start and finish with a ladder. Im hoping Rob.D will be selling an “every cut” system…. 🤔😉

Heavyweight slabs today. Client asked for two oak slabs, 1m wide, 4m long, 8” thick!!!! (We cut them at 9”) Only about 800kg each!

It’s great. cuts like softwood, sells at hardwood prices. the really dark, burry stuff is as valuable as walnut.👍

Yeah he’s one of my apprentices. Been with me on and off for over 3 years. Solid hard worker, keen, sober and would pass a medical, semi experienced. Would highly recommend him as a valued team player.

From a garden? Worthless from a forest plantation? no big mill would be interested. But you might get £200 from a local chainsaw miller.

Redwood 3m 6”x1” planks…. phone any large sawmill for a quote. you’ll be shocked at the prices. £10-£20 would be cheap. 👍

What diameter is the pine? what size mill? the internalised branches can be incredibly hard and a bit catchy. I use a narrow 36” mill, 3/8 standard, and full comp full chisel with 90cc, flys through softwood. 👍

Oak felling seasoning and milling advice?

Sadly I do not think milling this tree is a good idea. Too much lean and heavy canopy will make all the boards split or warp or both. will be good firewood though👍 -
Only full manual carb saw available in the UK?!?!? Please explain????

We did a little demo of the 881 and the 60” panther mill in the stihl demo area. I think the stihl guys enjoyed having a go too.

A few photos of the stall we manned for Rob.D of Panther mills and Chainsawbars.co.uk at this years APF. Big thank you to Justin for letting us stay in his tent… (Most expensive tent I’ve ever stayed in…) Really enjoyed meeting lots of other chainsaw millers and putting faces to arbtalk members.

Ask me in a couple of weeks, as this is the first time using it. so far everything looks flat still and it’s taken out 200+ litres of water. I bought it off a mate who was drying about 6+ m3 of 2”-3” hardwood from green in 8-10 weeks to 10%mc. Logosol don’t sell the 4kw anymore, think it’s a 2kw now. still can dry a dozen 10’ x 3’ slabs though.

When you cross cut it, you get black chip and sawdust, but also a black liquid drips from the cut…
