  1. No. Chaps are not legal on any site now. Get a proper pair of cs trousers, boots and helmet. About £70. Forest cs wellies £70 Helmet £25-50 [emoji106]
  2. There’s two prices for these logs. Forest price and garden price. One is a product specifically grown for harvesting and timber production. The other one will be full of nails and is a waste product. I pay market prices for forest logs. I get paid to remove logs from gardens. It doesn’t matter how big and rare your log is if you find a cast iron Victorian tree guard in it. [emoji106]
  3. Build a rail system like everyone else [emoji106]
  4. Mate got one off wish or some site. Chain brake keeps snapping on. Doorstop now.
  5. Sorry🤣🤣🤣 should have said a…. [emoji6][emoji106]
  6. I’m guessing that’s about 2’ dbh? Nice straight clean log. Years ago that would get sent to a peeler to make plywood from. It’s mainly chipped now. Seen a few that size but not straight like that. [emoji106]
  7. Anyone who can’t handle squirrels is OUT! End of. [emoji106]
  8. I’ve seen Scots pine do this before. Me and another well known uk tree surgeon had a 3’ dbh SP with big lumpy waist and unusual flare. Presumed it was sap wood compensating for damaged/unhealthy heartwood. Nope. Bloody solid. The grain must have been crazy inside as the cone splitter got stuck everytime. Got dumped on a fire in the end. The grey patch does look like healed damage in your photo. [emoji106]
  9. Tensioning the chain is simple. Screw clockwise until the chain comes into full contact with the bar, then lift the nose of the bar, this should slacken it slightly. Then tension again whilst holding the bar nose up. Then tighten off. The chain should run freely with a push if the hand and only slight resistance. If it’s hard to move, it’s too tight. If it sags, it’s too loose. When a chain skips off the bar the sprocket continues turning. This will peen or splay the bottom of the drive links. Normally a chain off rail will be stopped quickly by the chain catcher. But a few links will be affected. There are two main profiles of tooth for cutting. Full chisel which is more aggressive and semi chisel which is less. Semi chisel is slightly slower but less risk of kickback and easier to sharpen. [emoji106]
  10. As a domestic user on your own private property, you could wear a tie and a smile and it’d be legal. Kevlar jeans? Not sure what they are. But if they aren’t saw rated I wouldn’t chance it. Steel toe cap boots are good, except what happens is the chain slides off the toe cap and cuts into the boot. Stay safe[emoji106]
  11. A mate of mine bought a cheap Aldi Lidl job, 18/20” Oregon bar and chain 50cc. Looked good. Until we started it. The chain brake would just snap on, in the cut after a second or two. Door stop. It’s a chainsaw, not wallpaper. Have you got chainsaw boots trousers and helmet? As an untrained amateur, I would strongly recommend you get some. Chainsaw bites are very very nasty. Get a proper saw and protection. [emoji106]
  12. Watched an interesting documentary on the development of the recurve bow. How it took thousands of years of constantly evolving designs. Then using modern science to work out the most effective use of the leverage of the arms etc. They discovered there is a Goldilocks zone of leverage power just each side of the handle, the risers are just there for length. Then archaeologists discovered a bow thousands of years old, just like the one they’d just designed. It’s probably on YouTube. [emoji106]
  13. Remove the bar, chain and drive sprocket. Buy new ones. Look after them. [emoji106]
  14. Get a stihl 171 new, with a 2 year domestic warranty extension and run it on motomix. A 12” bar will easily do want you need and more. I’d get several chains and a filing kit too. That should do you fine.[emoji106] Until someone mentions milling…. [emoji6]
  15. No mate. Some things in this world are wrong. We all have a brief flash of existence, and we are all volunteers. Maybe there are things worth working for more valuable than mere monies. Swinny, one day we should have a chat over a cup of tea, and I’ll tell you a story of positivity. [emoji106]
  16. Born in 76. Which means even if I had a deposit now. I’m too old to get a mortgage. [emoji106]
  17. What’s your point Mick?
  18. I love how all the home owners are preaching how clever they were to buy a house decades ago for pennies. Congratulations. Now **************** off, because there are millions of us who will never afford to own a home. Millions on minimum wage or low paid jobs. It’s not having the balls to buy somewhere… Every single person of my generation I know got the deposit off there family. You can’t work pay rent and save 20-50k… This world is deeply ****************ed.
  19. Just greedy. He’s seen what I’ve done, and thinks I’m minted…🤣🤣🤣
  20. J you’re worrying me…[emoji848][emoji6]
  21. All going in a barn. Shop is closing Sunday. Will not be reopening. [emoji106]
