  1. You can check the “play” in your chain easily. Hold a section of several drive links. Push and pull them. New chains have no play, old chains will contract and extend very slightly. This is caused by the rivets grinding the tie straps, and….. Poorly maintained chain tension. [emoji106]
  2. Write something constructive Mike. I do have a little experience in these matters. [emoji106]
  3. Saw a short video on Instagram by arborestry
  4. Ash is in lockdown. Can’t move, buy or sell ash as a living tree. I was going to plant a load at a clients. Might have to start collecting keys. [emoji106]
  5. The other thing a stretched chain will do is snap. Not fun.(often with bad filing too). [emoji106]
  6. A new chain will stretch. A hot chain will stretch more. A cold chain contracts. I’ve had a 361 shown to me with the whole clutch mechanism doing loops. People who are new to saws often have difficulty tensioning chains. [emoji106]
  7. Yes, To tension, lift the nose of the bar up an inch, The chain should be loose. Tighten until the chain comes completely into contact with the bar. (Still holding the nose up) Chain should move freely with a little resistance. Then tighten off bolts and release nose. Once you’ve done a few cuts it’ll be a bit slack with a new chain. Loosen nuts, lift nose, retension, tighten nuts, release nose. Don’t forget to loosen nuts and detension after cutting, chain should be slack. [emoji106]
  8. Grow your own? [emoji6][emoji106]
  9. Can’t drink booze that tastes of mud… 🤷🏽‍♂️[emoji6][emoji106]
  10. Get a rag and rub a bit of chain oil on the bar before you use it. When bedding a new engine in… Try not to Rev it too much outside of a log. After each tank of fuel, give it 45-60 minutes to cool. Keep the chain tensioned correctly. If it sags after a few cuts, normal for a new chain. When you’ve retensioned and finished the first tank YOU MUST detension the chain or it will stretch as it cools possibly bending the crankshaft. [emoji106]
  11. Yew is very slow growing, Especially if you prune the leaders… [emoji106]
  12. Can’t drink scotch, too peaty. A nice Irish whisky is my prefered. But I’m a brandy man over whisky. Hennessy fin, or very aged eau de vie.[emoji106]
  13. Doesn’t deserve to own it…[emoji22]
  14. If that yew is available I’d mill it[emoji106]
  15. Rather liked that. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  16. Oh dear. My eyesights bad already. Any other mobile version? [emoji106]
  17. Ok I don’t think I can patent this. So anyone who uses this idea owes me a pint. Red builders bucket with a bio hazard sticker on it. 3 holes in rim to put tent pegs through. Tell clients before if you find any “bio-hazards” you will contain them at the cost of £25 each. (Or more…) They keep the bucket.
  18. It’s a bit plain for my liking, but nice spalted or with figure. It is a very popular wood however [emoji106]
  19. Buddy I’ll be blunt. It’s gone from cutting a bit of your own firewood at home… Now it’s getting paid to fell and process a woodland. You’ll need more than a 135 for that job. Not to mention the paperwork and insurance. Tread very carefully.
  20. Might actually have a solution for this… Give me a couple of weeks. [emoji848]
  21. So it’s a paid job, not on your property… Do you have anyone else with you? Or do you plan on working alone?
