  1. The farmer extracted the log about 2 years ago in 3 x 30’ sections. 2 sections have split along the medullary rays and only good for quartersawn. The other piece was hollow for 5’ at one end and I crosscut it into rings along with the other solid 5’ leaving 20’. that I’ve milled half of. my kiln is an older model Logosol about 4kw. Put it on a 40 degree cool cycle and it’s shed a lot of water without any obvious problems so far…..
  2. The farmer also told me they’d had some carbon dated. The deep stuff is 5000 approx and other bits dated between then and a few hundred years ago. we found a few small pieces of bog yew as well but only tiny pieces. Going back in a couple of weeks to mill the other log. I’ll ask the farmer if he’s got any documentation👍
  3. If you look carefully at picture one. this 10’ piece, I cut from a 30’ piece. the farmer found a 90’ log, he had to cut it into 3 x 30’ to get it out. the rest of the tree is under the brambles.
  4. The bog oak from a few months back. from near Blackpool. the story the farmer told me was: The trunks are all 70’-90’+ about 5’-6’ under the surface. all laying in the same direction away from the coast… must have been a hell of a tsunami to flatten an oak forest several miles inland…. approx 5000 years ago. the farmer finds the trunks when digging huge drainage ditches.
  5. (British bog oak) cooking nicely in the logosol drying kiln. Should be ready for a very very special project…. Coming soon… These are the ones Callum from @chain2grain and I cut a few months back.
  6. Milling a large Wych elm today, at nearly 150cm wide it’s time to get the big toys out!!! Panther 80” mill GB 84” .404 bar Oregon .404 hyperskip Stihl ms881😁😁😁
  7. Bit of elm today, helped by Callum from chain2grain. usual rig: stihl ms881 panther 60” mill GB 64” bar and panther .404 hyperskip chain.
  8. Yeah it is🤣 sadly it’s not mine… fortunately the client is into guitars in a big way, so some will get sent to a luthier. The rest will go for furniture in the clients house. 👍
  9. Introducing my old apprentice of 3+ years. Helping me finish the cherry from yesterday.
  10. Milled a large cherry for a client today. at 3.3m x 1m+ it was a surprise it wasn’t completely rotten. Client is very happy.
  11. Full skip would work well, higher chain speed and more chip clearance. Also less teeth to sharpen.👍
  12. Wanker Liar Frontier gibberish Bullshitter Fundamental snowflake. There’s your reasons. And mine for giving up on arbtalk.
  13. But I can see why most arborists and companies don’t post on here.
  14. It’s an Internet forum with many different opinions.
  15. What’s my business called?… How do you know my name?… Ok you think you’re calling me out. You think I’m intentionally lying and have done before. Well Mike this may come as a shock to you, It’s my opinion. I don’t write gospel.
  16. Mike I never took you for a troll before, What’s all this animosity about? Chain shrinkage? Bent crankshafts? Never knew you felt so strongly about them. Or me ?
  17. Been knocked back for worse jobs. What’s your issue Mike?
  18. To be honest I think shandy may be too much these days. Tea is by far my favourite drink. Shit. I got old. 🤣[emoji22][emoji106]
  19. You’re right mate I know FA. I’m going to have to send these prototype chainsaws back to the multinationals. Tell them I won’t be testing them anymore. Because a guy off the internet who’s never met me has got a chip on his shoulder about something? I haven’t posted hundreds of pictures of my work, dozens of videos. It’s all imaginary…… [emoji6][emoji106]
  20. Just spoken with the other arbtalker who was with me when we looked at that saw… But my opinion is gibberish. To you.
  21. Ok. You supply the saw, I’ll supply the chains. Let’s test it.
  22. Back in Brighton about 6? Years ago, There was a lad selling used power tools in a unit opposite. He brought over a 361 one day and asked if it was any good. When I pulled the starter cord the chain started moving, without the engine starting. Interesting I thought, so took off the side cover, bar and chain. When I pulled the starter cord the whole clutch housing rolled around, and not the way it should do. The bar and chain were toasted with burnt crap. Presumed over heated chain with repeated over tensioning then left to go cold. Can’t see any other way that could have happened.
  23. So after accusing me of digging a hole, then insulting me, Now you’re agreeing with me… Been on the juice this afternoon Mike?
