  1. Wahey! Another weegie... I doff my cap sir..
  2. Are you sayin im a tight arsed jock? Ya southern poof! ?
  3. Nowt wrong with a lego tree bud? To address the questions asked by the op,id say join a group. Group pastimes or hobbies are great at gettin you off your arse and has the bonus motivation of knowing others are depending on you. Reading and improving your knowledge is also great. Funnily enough i joined a political group recently cause im sick of moaning about tories/labour/Snp shafting people so ive done something about it now and it feels good to be proactive, tryin to help folk like myself. If your lookin for something worthwhile then perhaps volunteer your time at a food bank or help families struggling in working poverty...oops im gettin political. You get my drift dont you First step is the hardest Good luck matey
  4. I get looks when i start my spuded 346xp.Its pretty vocal! I been offered silly money for that saw. How much do you guys think its worth? Most ive been offered is 400 notes!
  5. Howdeedoodee, Lookin for an older husky, none of yer 550,560 modern breaks down every 10 minutes shite. Summat bullet proof that can pull a 20inch bar all day. I have a spuded 346xp but its my baby and running a 20 on it would be pushing it too hard. Recommendations most welcome please. Dont give me any up to date huskys, not interested!
  6. That means you have to be twice as hard to climb srt then...
  7. Heard the american accent and immediatly switched off. Unless its buckin billy ray or august hunike then im not watchin some yank plank fuck about with saws. Thanks anyway vesp
  8. I sense a vibration in the force.... Its as if..... another cs course is being invented... We must prepare to part with cash to legally climb srt....
  9. We just take our rope out and put a throwline in the cambium saver, put the throwline back in the cube then put the cube about 12-15 foot up the tree on a branch or peg. Nextday spike up and get it or use a laddder if spikes are not an option
  10. Some very established companies are active all over the central belt of scotland. Cut above tree services, central tree surgeons and a few others spring to mind. Its already cut throat competative. If it were me, its not an area id set up in
  11. Zigzag is best on 11.5 mm ropes but ive run one on a 13mm rope with a pulley saver with little issues. Zz mk3 can be run with a rope wrench for srt no issues either although its not rated for srt(by petzl) but it works well. Another little trick with the zz is it can be run srt on its own whilst choggin down a stem, heres how. Take the spliced eye of the top carabiner on the zz,tie a bowline with a long tail on your rope around the stem, tail length depends on how big the sections your are knockin off are, once a section is knocked off unclip flipline, and decend on zz srt style, tie in with flipline again on the stem, retreive bowline by flicking the long tail ,start again. No more spiking down stems. Really handy on stems that catch your flipline/lanyard
  12. ? hi new guy! Never used those boots but if its forestry or just fannying about in the woods(me that is not you ?)i always used meindl woodwalkers or haix forestry boots. Both are great in my most humble opinion. Welcome to the forum,be careful about entering into conversstion with vespassian and be VERY VERY wary of mark bolam.....he's been known to perform sexual acts for beer at arb shows....
  13. As i remember it on my assesment i had to do a hand held step cut,ie step cut and break the section off with your hands.A step cut freefall section, self explanitory really and a face cut with back cut section. The last one is a small face cut on top of the branch with a the back cut underneath the branch using a taped sling utilizing the hinge to pull the branch torwards you. (Hope that made sense?) Those 3 examples are on a lateral branch/limb. Next cuts are on a standing section,a pole. 2 examples of a step cut, hand held sections and 2 examples of a face cut with back cut, hinge etc. Your hinges will be inspected by the assesor. It all sounds very technical but in reality, its really very straight forward. You can download the assesment criteria from the nptc website. Like i said dont worry, take your time and think about each cut and you'll pass no bother. As a better man than me says "Good work position is everything"
  14. You will be issued with a handbook with pictures and diagrams of all the cuts required to pass the course. Dont sweat it its a piece of piss
  15. I had a bosh, didnt last, had a makita, batteries and charger went. Dewalt seem to outlast the rest.
  16. As far as im aware the newer 261m tronic models have no needle bearing issues. Our have been bullet proof little saws. Run ours on a 16 with full chisel chains ?
  17. Another 346xp,or if you cant get one a stihl 261.
  18. Husky technical is the best ground helmet ive used and ive used most brands.
  19. Check the pull start housing and mechanism
  20. That question makes my head hurt... Could be the whiskey i had lastnight though.
  21. Yeah your right.Big difference between manufacturers recommendations and real life scenarios though... Best not say anymore or the ppe police might show up... You aint seen me ......right!
  22. Unsure of that one to be honest mate so i couldnt say one way or another.
  23. No more bulky than any other double hand ascender. Its pretty light and V shaped for better hand grip ergonomics. I dont find it bulky at all mate tbh
