  1. Husky 346xp.. You probably wont be able to get one but look hard enough and there are some gems left. Welcome to arb work Its shite...but not as shite as cooking a sirloin well done for some dipshit with no tastebuds in his fuckn head! Been there done that....
  2. Sometimes spirit levels are redundant. Ive hung gates level only to realise the fence at both sides arent, making your gate look skewif and wonky
  3. Contact Alan mcDowall at merlin tree services near you. Top bloke
  4. Is it the velcro top and bottom or velcro top straps bottom? Cheers
  5. Yeah i clocked your input earlier bud thanks, appreciate your contribution?
  6. Any forestry guys on here? Clearly you domestic types dont do windblow...?
  7. J cut explained. Well the way i do it.. Reduction cut in opposite side of stem.Bore in on this side half way down stem and cut all the way to the bottom. This leaves around a quarter of the stem attatched to route plate.Couple of inches back from the attatched quarter cut hard and fast down till stem breaks off and root plate lifts up. Sometimes it goes quick sometimes the stem just breaks off and the root plate doesnt move. Hope that explains it. Ive used the dogtooth method but its not always possible or easy getting a gob in on the underside of a stem.
  8. I wouldnt run an 18" bar on a 231. Hasnt got the balls to pull that size of bar in anything over 10 inches. 14 inch bar perfect,at a stretch 16 for soft wood.
  9. I was asked today if there are any other specialised cuts besides the J cut to deal with windblown trees under tension, root plate attatched etc I cant remember any... Anyone shed any light? Winching doesnt count btw
  10. Ive got the treehogs, short gaff is best. Long gaff for dead trees with loose bark or trees with big fissures in the bark.
  11. Dont quite understand what your getting at there bill. My point is one person(ipaf ticket) does the mewp controls other guy (non ticketed) uses the chainsaw... If your a climber but dont have a mewp ticket id say your more than safe to dismantle a tree from a bucket, just dont press any buttons
  12. I was under the impression a non trained person can go up in a bucket with a ipaf trained individual. We do it regularly... Im unsure of the legalities though
  13. Yeah its cs38 tree climbing and aerial rescue. Its not called cs38 now but it essentially the same course. Just practise climbing using a basic kit, keep it low and slow, try branch walking aswell. It would be better if you could go on a climb with someone who's an experienced climber. Do u know anyone?
  14. Ive hit whitebeams hard, not pollarding but heavy prune during the winter and never had an issue. Not sure if pollarding is the best answer tbh
  15. Is this climbing course cs39 tree climbing and aerial rescue?
  16. Cant think of a configuration on srt that would allow for an aerial rescue. What if you use srt to access casualty taking a second rope up with you. The 2nd rope could be used basal anchor and a groundie lowers the causualty as you(the rescue climber)assists the casualty down Srt for access then onto ddrt for the actual rescue maybe the reality though
  17. Everyone gets fear, its just at what height,50 feet,80 or 120 feet... go high enough and everyone gets scared. Its how you handle your fear and get into work mode that counts. Speed will come in time,as will good work positioning. When you can look up at a tree and see routes round it,see good anchor points and how your goin to prune or dismantle it you know your getting somewhere. As said above its the will and pig headedness to get better that will bring your confidence up. Push yourself I used to hate spiking up spars cause i gaffed out of a scots pine choggin down a pole and it put the shitters up me! I made myself spike up and down every spar i could after that so i wasnt scared anymore.Trust your gear, climb often, challenge and push yourself, you'll get there
  18. New thing... Groundies are now bubblemen Even when im groundie...bubbleman ?
  19. Looks very similar to the petzl grigri The music makes me want to pee..
  20. Giant bubbleman? Is that mancunian for fat? Im in the market for a new harness Reg so hows the stein holding up? Thoughts Nice vid cheers
  21. All this talk of baranek and bore cuts is too much for a newbie. Keep it simple and step cut it in bite size sections. Dont attatch the chainsaw lanyard to your harness incase the saw gets caught in the kerf. With snap cuts only experience will teach you how much of a gap to leave between cuts as you will cut some too close and the log will drop off on you. Given its a cut and chuck,no targets under the tree, you will get off with dropping em should you fcuk up
  22. Inspecting a beech with merrip earlier and came across all these beauties in a very small area.
  23. I ll 2nd what matty said about liros. Its very grippy but very easily glazed,so if you like fast decents its best avoided
