  1. All gteat advice from the lads. Id like to add my tuppence. Push yourself to start climbing, some will say start on smaller trees to get your confidence up-nah! Get youself up a big epi ridden lime or a gnarly half dead piece of shit cypress, summit that scares the shit out of you and get her done. Once you've done that a couple of times you ll be better equipt confidence wise to do just about anything. Try and get your rigging/sectional felling tickets asap,it will take you into a higher pay scale, and lets be honest its where the money is. Big takedowns command big money
  2. Some of the older generation who fought in conflicts across the globe have had to deal with the aftermath of witnessing horrors first hand in ww2 and all our unknown wars since. My own grampa was a para in ww2 and i knew he saw action but it was never spoke about in the family. Only at his funeral did i hear he fought in normandy, holland and his section helped liberate a detention camp in germany.I cant imagine the horrors he and his mates saw in that camp and the preceeding hard fighting to get to germany. He was such a character, always laughing, even with a rollie hanging out his gob. Never mentioned war, never even mentioned it to my mother when i joined up....
  3. Absolutley! Its a bond that never diminishes. I can meet up with some of the lads (Havent done in some years now) and we click back into how we always are with each other.Everyones a wanker and your a puff if you get pissed after 4 pints(me!) ?
  4. Erm nowt. I had a pair for a 9 months but developed corns on my wee toes so gave em to one of the lads. He's still wearing em,not in great nick but point is weve both done nothing to them. Some forestry guys put daub on em....
  5. I can completly relate to this. Loud noises make me angry, not sustained noise like a chainsaw but sudden bangs etc I get really angry... Dont know why Im also prone to bouts of feeling low,not depressed just very negative like i will find the bad point in any positive situation. Thats from my forces back ground, i know it is, but ive got the tools to deal with that and i can cope. I dont proffess to understand ptsd but i sympathise for those who suffer. Bloody awful thing to have to deal with
  6. 2 fantastic posts agrimog, which totally mirrors the same opinions as i do.
  7. Without limits Australia BBC1 now. About injured ex forces walking accross outback oz if anyones interested.
  8. Whats a quickie? Im more of a sunday morning special man myself....
  9. Nail on the head there wes, although id like to add to that if i may. It seems those who need help most are the ones who are most reluctant to seek help.It used to be have a drink, kick yourself up the arse carry on. My mate paul was on the street, alcoholic and alone. Christ i get teary just thinkin about that. I just dont get how such a normal switched on bloke can get to the bottom of the pile and couldnt get help. From anyone Maybe he didnt try hard enough? I dont know....
  10. Some brilliant posts here guys. Thanks So back on track Any ideas how we can address this problem? Any ideas would be welcome. Im tryin to get a couple of local lads i know on board and arrange a meeting with my Mp and Msp and try to highlight this issue. Something must be done
  11. An absolute parcel of shite. You ever seen war first hand? Then you have no opinion that matters to those who have. This thread aint for you Im trying to be tactful here Really tryin hard
  12. Thanks guys. Heart warming posts except vesp but i expected as much from him. Too each his own i suppose
  13. What the hell is going on? It seems like every week i hear, read or see on tv a lot of our ex service personel being abandoned on our streets. Ive lost 1 mate to alcohol and homelessness and im damned if i ll lose another! Why isnt our government or at least the MOD doing more to address this issue? We know how ptsd has affected many of our personel so why isnt more being done? I know from my time in the services that alcohol is deep seated in the forces way of life and it is used as a way to unwind and decompress. Many soldiers coming back from theatre find themselves on civvy street just cant adjust. Some,if not most, are too proud or embarressed to ask or seek help until they have hit the street dependant on drugs and alcohol, alienating the loved ones, who try too help, but get pushed further and further away because the squaddie mindset it too carry on and make do. Our lads and lasses are NOT being helped by our government, infact the only help seems to be coming from those ex forces who have suffered themselves and are good enough to put those experiences into use to help others in the same situation, most of these are run with charity contributions. I dont proffess to have the answers but perhaps if more pressure was applied to our government more would be done. Im angry,so fuckin angry
  14. More of an inside, dog person myself! ? I ll look u up
  15. Dunno if your on instagram or not but if you are,i follow some female climbers/foresters. Treetater Izzy_rascal5 Annakins_tree_walker Olivia_eggan All post great photos if your interested
  16. Hanging off a rope up an 80 foot tree with a chainsaw.... Neck tether is a choking hazzard... Never has the term" bigger picture " been more apt.
  17. Hi welcome to arbtalk, there seems to be a few options now for females requiring ppe. Pretty sure pfanner and arbortec are the two blazing trails in that respect. I know a few female climbers and theyre great. Im not one for judging anyone on gender or anything else except work ethic and timekeeping so its irrelevant to me,just do the job and be safe! Hope you enjoy the industry, it can be very rewarding.
  18. I cant help it, its the pedant in me...
  19. Educated guess... You aint denying it ?
  20. Piles of worn Y fronts dont count mate
  21. Habitat piles are exactly what there called. When we work in the woods we always leave the logs and brash in small piles dotted around. Its ecouraging miniture ecosystems to thrive. Long story short is... Your neighbours a gimp
  22. Watching that 2nd video husky 576xp mega fail destruction that would have been prevented by putting in lug cuts or ears under the hinge. Lucky guy, dead saw!
  23. So Austris Forst have been good enough to post this video of a forester getting into a pickle pinching two saws. First one is straight away at the start of the video. The 2nd and more serious one is around the 5 minute mark. I really respect the guy for posting this as he is clearly having a nightmare day as im sure we all have had from time to time. I really struggle with tension/ compression in multiple windblow and that sort of thing so i feel for him. Vid is 18 minutes long but the last couple of minutes is just him putting bars and chains back on the freed saws. Its not for everyone but it gave me a giggle.
  24. I dont see any of your previous statements as patriotic.Feel free to highlight them.Perhaps your defenition of patrionism differs from mine, who knows! Here's a perfect example for you. English bloke with st geoges flag draped over his shoulders-patriotic! Scottish bloke with St andrews flag draped over his shoulders-separatist! It was on the BBC so it must be true?
