  1. You can buy hitch cord by the metre and tie it too your own length or buy shorter eye to eye hitch cord Double fishermans are fine for the terminations.
  2. TO's have better things to do with there time than chase rec climbers around parks.Just be sensable. Dont damage the trees,or climb with a silky. Keep away from well used paths and members of the public.
  3. I totally disagree with that too! ?
  4. I totally disagree with all you say...?
  5. The earth is flat.. 911 was a conspiracey by the CIA to wage war on the Muslim world... No one has ever been too the moon... My mate went back in time to the grassy knoll and shot JFK... Mark Bolam is the voice of reason on arbtalk..... We dont live in reality, its actually a computer game controlling our minds... Stubby will find those chainsaw trousers hes been searching for... Antlantis is not a submerged city but a shitty nightclub/cattle market down the road from me... Oh and elvis aint dead,he made me a sausage butty this very morning..
  6. Buyin cheap trousers is a false economy, climbing is hard on trousers so its far better to invest in "silly priced" ones that will last a couple of years. Get phanner gladiators type c,really really good trousers. If you must go down the cheap and cheerful route i cant help you.... Im not even sorry....
  7. Yes it can be sometimes but it depends on a host of variables obviously
  8. With big meaty limbs that can be free falled we usually set up a crotch rig with a cradle set up,just means you can take big sections, dont need to worry about it popping off or pinching your bar. Had a oak limb take my saw away from me years ago,bar got caught in the kerf, SHAT IT....... luckily saw wasnt attatched to my harness,i was advised by a more experienced climber at that point to do that.... As said above most folks will take sections rather than the full bhuna
  9. Completly sympathise with this. Our guys are all over 40 with various ailments and issues but no one wants to join our squad due to our workload, work ethic, the nature of our job and wage structure. Imo its only a matter of time before our work is put out to tender.
  10. Cheers wes. Ok so as i dont have any experience of this first hand so i can only offer an opinion from the perspective of a council climber. The simple fact is councils have been subjected too massive cuts and it was only a matter of time before some recognised the merits in earning extra revenue through bidding for private contracts. My own council have been bidding in contracts or has vested interests in non profit/charity companies for a while but wont at this point concider tree works in that catagory. My own thoughts on this are councils have been and still are poorly run and until this is addressed then councils will find ways of earning extra revenue too prop up a crumbling system. Councils should either A tender all work out to contractors or B keep a work in house as i think doing a little bit of both is unfair on local firms. Sime things said above id like to address. Councils dont have a huge budget to advertise, most ciuncils set an annual budget for each outlay and stick too it religiously,i doubt advertising would be deemed important enough to receive funds. Working for the council i know how difficult it is to get permission from planning to work on TPO'd trees, infact contractors notice of intent of works are prioritised before our own. Its just blatantly wrong to conclude all council workers are work shy bastards, unmotivated and lacking in conscience. Finally we dont have access to huge amounts of kit, unfortunatly, the office monkeys would rather hire in equipment than invest in our own. Just opinions and thoughts from a council tree guy...
  11. OP hitch cord is balls.Use marlow boa (yellow and black) hitch cord, bites everytime just dont get too sporty eith it as it doesnt hold up well too lots of fast decents.
  12. I wouldnt expect a new climber to bring any climbing kit, just ppe. Different if he was a subby but he aint, plus the term all the gear and no idea springs to mind.
  13. Be honest about your level of experience, which will be obvious when your climbing and felling. Take it slow,id rather have a slow/safe employee than a quick/dangerous one. Concentrate on what your doing, dont walk under the tree without making contact with climber/head groundie. Given that your very new with the tickets but no experience id say the expectations will be low,all they will be lookin for is work ethic and how keen you are. Oh and dont snap the chainbrake on and off all the time, wait till saw is at low revs before engaging brake. Just be senseable. Good luck
  14. Used to enjoy prunes with my zubat till i realised the negative impact it was having on my elbows.Ive got golfers and tennis elbow on both arms now,to a lesser extent on my left arm. Smaller topper is more ergonomic and leaves a good pruning cut.
  15. Wonder if thats the same TO that demanded a 1 metre peg left after a limb removal then 30% removal of said peg every winter for 3 years after... Codit gone mad?
  16. Id rather not mick, thankin you! I know how these things can get side tracked.Just amazed at the evolution in subject matter. You feelin bit tetchy today oor michael?
  17. How the fu#k did you guys get from pruning to pre ww2 US funded fascism...
  18. what length of tether u using on that setup matty?
  19. I prefered the little dmm pinto pulley in the hitch climber setup, really need eye to eye hitch cord and a dmm boa biner to keep it neat though.Dont think ive seen anyone use the 3rd hole in the dmm hitch climber pulley, and its a bit bulky for me. To each his/her own though. When you perfect your hitch/rope/hitch cord combo-perfecto!
  20. We did a beech hedge a while back in a golf course, about 30 meters long. Face up each side and a light cut on top. Used hedge trimmers, extendable hedgetrimmers and a scag mower. 3 man team not even a full mornings work. One guy on hedgetrimmers facing up,2nd man behind cutting top of hedge,3rd man raking cuttings off the top and into a pile. When 1st guy is finished facing up he jumps on the scag mower and mulches the cuttings,2nd guy blows the cuttings under the hedge,3rd guy (me) is scratching his arse and about too chase payment. May give you an idea or 2 for time etc but it depends on what equipment you use how many guys and is mulching the cuttings an option? Possibley not if the arisings are quite thick
  21. That ended quite amicabley.... I was lookin forward to a good spat there...
  22. Anyone know the bend radius on those x rings, compared to a medium sized pulley? Just curious....
  23. Well thats the end of that thread then...
  24. Read the post, watch the 15 second vid. Guys was lucky, but rigging that big a section off the branch he had his pulley on was, well suicidal imo. Those that dont have facebook maybe some kind hearted soul will repost on here. https://www.facebook.com/1529423787312165/posts/2122250991362772/
  25. Our 2 x 261's have been faultless. As said not the best 50cc saw but on a 16 its better than decent. One thing i will say is it seems to be overly loud at full pelt
