  1. Agreed steve, although my thoughts were more of a mock rescue under assesment sort of thing. Real world yeah id get the guy out the tree double quick one way or another.
  2. Both our 201's leak oil... I dont care for them that much too investigate... Sorry im no help ?
  3. Behind the little plastic cover above the sprocket
  4. Just out of interest how many guys on here, climbing 10 years plus, can remember how to perform an aerial rescue? Im not even at 10 years and id struggle to properly perform a rescue. It would be alot easier with modern mechanical devices zz sj etc but with 2 ddrt ropes and prussiks??? Id struggle big time
  5. Thats tragic mate.Hope you recover quickly.best wishes
  6. When you climb you should have a rescue climber. Period! Real world here's my opinion. Ive climbed without a rescue climber, ive also climbed with groundies who are ticketed aerial rescue climbers but would struggle to get up a tree in a rescue situation so are you any better off in that situation...no. Its totally your call, best practice is to have 2 good climbers on any job incase the worst happens but in reality many firms just dont pay the wages of 2 good climbers on 1 job. If you have an accident up a tree the best option is self rescue ie get your ass down out the tree but if your incapacitated then thats when your reliant on a 2nd climber. Its your call. Ive done it myself so i cant judge you if you chose too do it but it is the law to have a "ticketed" rescue guy.
  7. Ported stihl 150 10 inch bar Husky 346xp (if u can find a good one) 15 inch bar on that Stihl 661 30 inch bar Stihl 410 strimmer Stihl hs82 hedgetrimmers Stihl hl 94c long reach hedgetrimmers
  8. Thats what makes it fun....? There are sime decent posts on their now and again. Tommy tree hutchison posts some informative stuff regular. You just pick your posts to comment on wisley
  9. Black kask with sordin eardefenders iand mesh visor in winter. Hi viz vertex vent with visor and ear plugs in the warmer months...thats july in scotland ?
  10. Bodem do good stay warm mugs and flasks
  11. Pole pruner to remove branches and take stem down in 2 sections. Hinge should always be thick on dead trees to allow for some nibbling to get it over or if its part mush. Its a learning curve mate. Dont sweat it weve all done it
  12. Brace/support whats left. Ive seen trees come back from worse but i have to admit it not a species im familiar with so its very basic advice. sorry
  13. What size of cherry was it? Height and canopy please
  14. Id agree but Nptc probably wouldnt. Imho Nptc assesors look to atain a certain pass rate with students rather than fail any. Those who are possibly lacking in the ability are usually molly codled through. Is this due to pressure from the companies sending students on these courses? Perhaps I know a guy who failed a course and his employer never used that training company again. Ive seen guys coming back from courses that struggled to cross cut timber never mind fell a tree. The courses, especially the climbing, seem to be stuck in the dark ages with the content.I was fortunate to go with a great tutor who showed us modern tecniques aswell as the 3 knot system and prussik ddrt traditional way of climbing. Nptc havent evolved as quickly as climbing has...
  15. Competent means able not skillful. Theres a big fuckn jump from competent to doing something well.
  16. Gaining certification for a nptc course means your compatent. You dont learn to climb in a work capacity until you start climbing in a work capacity. Its like everything else you get better with time and experience. Push yourself and you'll improve quickly.
  17. I dont get it. Zigzag or micro pulley? They do different things Here's my advice, get a foot ascender and stick with the prussik. You can use the foot ascender to advance your body up the rope and push the prussik up as you go.Just make sure your prussik is "tied dressed and set" weight tested before you ascend.Utilising your legs to ascend will save energy and be more ergonomic. Learn how to climb around a tree before buying any kind of mechanical device. When it comes to rescue, concentrate on not getting injured, good work practices, good work positioning and you'll never have to be rescued. To perform an aerial rescue best look into the many vids on youtube or get a good climbing book.Climbers companion by jeff jepsom is a good un.
  18. Yeah i thought the same thing. Tm bridge is quite long,i shortend mine ages ago when i got a replacement bridge. Also kong ducks teeth are quite aggressive so id be careful with it. Potential to render bridge "fukced" very high.
  19. Reading through this thread,2 things strike me 1 Guys are under pricing there work. If your day rating then set a price and stick too it,if you know your worth it then dont sell yourself short. I was guillty of under pricing just to get work but its a mugs game. 2 This is going to sound shite but when im hirrd in as a climber, i climb i come out the tree i walk. Now that sounds harsh but when im hired on a day rate i ll drop my harness and batter in with the lads but if im hired to dismantle a tree thats what i do,its on the deck im done. Ive definetly lost work, cheap work, but when i graft i earn good money for reputable companies.
  20. Looks like a constipated cat...
  21. Petzl do a long bridge for the sequoia harness.Dont know if that would cause problems at the loler stage though. Its a bridge so fit for purpose but obviously not for the TM harness.
  22. You do realise the sun moves... so the shadow will move aswell.
  23. Like someone said earlier i tend to bulk cook for 3 days so im not fannying around in the kitchen every night. For lunch i tend to go pretty light, mostly protein, veg and or salad with some low gi carbs chucked in like brown rice, wholemeal pasta or buttered yams. Baked potatoes with beans or homemade hearty soups are great for me during autumn/winter days. Right now im only climbing a couole of days a week max,but im gyming 3 times a week so i tend to have my big meals in the evenings after work and the gym. Sandwiches are great but why not look at different types of breads instead of looking at new fillings Foccacia is great, nice and oily with lots of herbs and tomatoes you can get different ones aswell, red onion and garlic, chilli and red pepper etc Might be an idea to go to your local bakers/deli/supermarket and see the breads available, choose your favourites then get some nice toppings to suit. Parma hams, soft cheeses, any kind of meat you fancy. Nuts and raisins are good for high calorie snacks on days when your knockin your pan in
