  1. Im not in trees, but do think it would be my dream job Either that or I did enjoy my time in welding/fabricating. that would be quite cool to do - get coded. Anything practical.
  2. Haven't run / biked / swum since August bank holiday when I cycled Land's End to Buckingham palace. I might get back out this weekend!
  3. That is Brilliant. They could make a fortune in London - Hipster artis-anal firewood! I might have to set up a market stall in Clifton and Montpelier in Bristol!
  4. What carb adjustment did you make? Is it a common thing?
  5. Flossie 16 week brindle Lurcher bitch puppy rehomed from Bristol RSPCA
  6. I was looking for a small saw and got the Husky 135. It's a cracking little bit of kit. Ended up getting it online,. delivered fully PDI'd, tank of fuel and oil and had been ruin to check it over. Stihl you have to go to the dealer as far as I can tell
  7. Knew a border cross Lakeland for 12 years. The BEST dog ive ever ever ever met
  8. I've seen that thread and an following. I'm going to get into arb. I'm hoping there's a different response when I've got my C30/31
  9. It might be Bristol - I'm also trying to get into Arb around Bristol. Offered to work for nothing even to get some experience but nothing really came of it. I've signed up for a basic course so at least be able to get some work experience after that. Its the first time I've ever offered to work for nothing and had people turn me down.
  10. Depends on what you define as the small stuff? Paying the bills and keeping a roof over the heads of me, my fiancee and the puppy aren't small things. Having said that - the toll my job is having on my sanity isn't a small thing either. 4 weeks until my C30/31 I'm going to enroll on the RFS Level 2 today as well. It'll be tight month!
  11. I also see it that the 17 year old is more likely to 'do one' after they've been trained as they have nothing to lose. If their business venture doesn't work, chances are they're still living with mum and dad so no rent etc. It could also be that 'kids' don't know what they want to do with their lives at school leaving age. It took me to 35 to realise I want to be outdoors, in the arb / groundy world and 40 to get to point where I'm seriously starting to train, study and look for a career move. Older more willing trainees or new starters have more to consider - likely to stay with a company to pay the mortgage, bills etc. I know I have a set amount to bring in each month just to pay my way. My partner is stressing that if I don't bring at least that much in then it puts loads more pressure on her to be the main bread winner. She has agreed that we'll jointly pay for some of my retraining though. She's an absolute diamond. I wonder if that's the other problem with companies taking on older trainees - either they expect I'll rock up asking for £25k starting, or the minimum wage makes it too expensive? Although I make it that minimum wage would put someone on £12.5. I'd be willing to start on that as a permie which would be a big drop. I see the apprentice wage (for first year apprentices over 19 is £5.5k - Yikes!). You'd like to think there'd be some consideration for maturity, experience, life skills and so on. Tornados7 there was a Devon company looking for a trainee in the employment section (I think) and I got a PM from an apprentice provider who has contracts in Devon - which is too far for me unfortunately
  12. Tell me about it!
  13. A tadpole in my pond. No sign of legs. Isn't it a bit late?
  14. They were bonkers when they first came out. Stands to reason they'd get better every time. A true loony car
  15. We've got a 15 week old lurcher puppy which is the perfect excuse to get the fire going. Need to get some wood sorted!
  16. How about a husky 135?
  17. I did try to get some work. I sent a speculative email out to about 30-40 local companies (and some national). Had 1 reply offering a couple of days that I can't make. I even said I'd work voluntarily for the experience. I'm hopeful that when I've got basic tickets I might get some more offers
  18. C30/31 booked in October. Enquiry sent to Capel about the online Level 2 ABC/RFS course. Waiting to hear back from a couple of places for possible trainee stuff. Offered 2 days basic experience / groundy work but can't get the time off the day job. I'm looking into condensing my hours to do 5 days in 4 so I can get a permanent spare day per week. Seems no-one here works weekends so no experience. I may try a speculative email again when I've done C30/31
  19. Course booked - looks very good! Counting down the weeks!
  20. C30/31 booked for the first week in October with Roland Flemming. 1 week annual leave booked so I can go. Looking at chipper / brushcutter at Royal Ag, and trying to find something like a stump grinder. Then I'll look at C38 later in the year or in the new year? Followed by C39. I've been offered 2 days basic grounding but can't get time off the day job :-(
  21. Anyone working in Stoke Gifford, Bristol today? I saw a truck and trailer appear on the estate form my office window. I might have to wander over and say hello later.
  22. Where / who is best? I've for funds for the basics and the add on chipper and a couple,of other bits. I'm looking ASAP although October onwards would suit me best.
  23. Had my Husky delivered by R&T. The driver explained a few bits to my girlfriend (who immediately forgot it all). It had been run, full tank offer and a full tank of chain oil! Very impressed, so I'll keep going back.
  24. How about C30/31 and then C38 climbing and rescue. Leave the C39. Could do chipper, stump grinder, brushcutter? Might make it easier to get groundie work? That's kind of my plan to start with.
