1. Why did you leave being a farrier? From what I can tell whilst I've been looking to get into arb is that the money is really bad when starting and your similar age to me but you also have a child to support. I've never known a poor farrier.
2. Oops Try this 2m x 1m x 1.9m
3. Ok so it's 3/4 finished. Need to put supports in the middle at front and rear. Any suggestions / recommendations for roofing? I've put some OSB on for starters. Can't decide now whether to use the corrugated bitumen sheets or cheap felt covered by feather edge boards. I don't like felt on its own
4. To be honest I'd do CS38 anyway - everyone I've spoken to about trying to get into arb even as a groundie they want 38. If you're looking for tickets then I'd go 30/31, 38 and then chipper possibly stump-grinder and a first aid course. The more you can put yourself through the more appealing you make yourself to employers. Try and get a few days dragging brash with firms to see if you like it and they like you. Have you put a thread up in the employment section? Looked on arbjobs or elsewhere? Look at getting a CSCS card too
5.
Mark - in box is full :-)

6. That's not the end of the world - how far over the bridge are you?
7. It is indeed Bristol Must update my profile so it appears under my picture too
8. Has anyone got a nice big ring of something for my back garden for use as a chopping block? Free would be great or swap for beer tokens Matt
9. How much anyway Felix? My large are a bit too small. I think I shrank them in the wash
10. I try to get stuff that needs cutting and splitting I guess it's cord or arisings. I can only get it in the boot of the car but I try and source what i can, as cheap as I can. I wouldn't expect anyone to stack for me, if I did get a delivery I'd have it dumped in the drive and then move and stack it myself
11. Type A or C Felix? If they're a C and Bird isn't interested I may be
12. Possibly. Would the grinder qualification be worth doing? That and chipper are only a £100 or so. I may be able to afford those, just can't afford the 38/39 at the mo, especially with no potential job at the end. I've put my CV in for the Bristol £300-£350 a week job. They want to see me for interview but also want me to work for a few days to see how we both get on. It's a bit tricky whilst working full time. I guess I could try and boom a couple of days leave? Wonder if them paying me is an issue as I'm working for someone else? I'm still keen on getting into it, and I do look at all opportunities. Here's hoping.
13. I never actually started this in the end, couldn't afford the £400 odd quid up front. Is it HCC that's £95 a month? I might be able to do that.
14. I was hoping to build it this weekend but a bout of flu and the crappy weather means next week is more likely. When it's built I'll be sorts some wood to dry for next winter. Would you store it as whole lengths ( 2') and split / cut next winter, split 2' sections and cut them next winter or cut and split to 12" that will be fully ready next winter? It will be mostly ash with a couple of cherry trees. That should all season by the next season shouldn't it? Thanks
15. Not really getting off topic. The original post and the Poll choices don't really match. Its obvious that the person with the emergency needs to deal with it, but how do you work that when there are 3 people and 1 vehicle - that's what the poll choices are asking.
16. Looking at the poll it appears to be an issue of how does the person with the home emergency get home - I'm guessing it's a 3 man team on site in one company truck? Fair enough - if it's a proper emergency at home then there'd be no stopping me and I wouldn't stop anyone else from going. I guess I'd be looking at how they get home? Maybe one of the 2 left can take them to the nearest station / bus stop? Can someone come and get them?
17. Ok. So, my reasonably well paid job is literally driving me crackers. There's a post advertised near me: groundsman / trainee climber. It's £300-350 per week dependent on experience etc. Only asks for C30/31. I could, probably just scrape by in life in £18k pa (£350/week) but not £15k Shall I apply of just face the fact that I've left it until I'm too old to make it feasible
18. Have you got a gap between the stacks of split timber there? We've got a load of fresh felled ash that we need to season. I guess cutting to the finished length and splitting it will helpmitmdry quicker. Also easier to process it now while it's green? I'll see if I can go nuts with collecting. I can keep it all in the garage until I build the store. What about doors for the front, or hang hessian down to keep the worst of the rain off and still allow air circulation? I've been searching. The forum for loads of other bits like saw horses etc so I'm looking forward to building and filling a new store. Roll on winter 2016
19. I have a small log store at the top of the drive, out front of the house I'm getting stocked up for next year and want to build a new more secure store in the back garden. Has anyone got any plans or designs? Best methods, things I need to know about? I was thinking long and low rather than narrow and tall. Maybe 12 feet by 4 feet high? I know I need a good roof overhang. Shall I make one or buy one? I've googled and looked on Amazon etc but they look REALLY expensive
20. I like it It's a bit of exercise and a chance to keep the saw ticking over.
21. Might be interested to stockpile next winters. Definitely need some seasoned though!
22. Hoping to find some seasoned wood, uncut (to make it cheaper) that I can collect in a car and process it at home. We've used a few cube already and I want to get some more ready for the cold spell that's forecast Anyone willing to let some wood go cheaper that I can cut and split at home?
23. It was a lovely day I'm bath Jon. My new wife and I were floating around the bath spa roof top pool earlier
24. Looking for firewood that is ready for processing. I believe cordwood is 4 foot long or so, I'm happy to chop and split as and when needed. I think my current dried wood is getting rained on a bit too much. That and SWMBO likes the fire on a bit too much so we may well run out a bit too early this year.
