  1. No. I've been looking for 6 months
  2. It didn't start like that...
  3. I would imagin all of those would work really well. Scan in pictures as well (as long as they're credited and referenced). Also photos would be good, you can annotate them in Paint or even Word if you need to. I'm actually going to start the first assignment this weekend. is there a time limit to complete it in? I've not started yet as had too much else on study wise.
  4. I'm happy to drag brash and watch and learn. I am doing as many tickets as I can afford on my way in though so I have an idea what to do. Its a steep learning curve. Also trying to get kit together so I can sub if needed and have my own kit.
  5. Still looking for a full time opening somewhere. Got 38/39 and a first aid course booked in May.
  6. I'm sitting waiting for Monday as it's supposedly the day I get the 'Big Decision'. Where I am currently is going through a restructure, we were asked if we wanted to apply for voluntary redundancy which I did. Next Monday I find out if I a) actually have a job in the new structure, b) don't have a job and am in the redeployment pool, c) have been accepted to leave with redundancy. Whatever the result I've booked myself onto the Treekit arb first aid course on the 7th May and I've booked 38/39 from the 16th May for 8 days. The company I had an interview that seemed keen have said if I do the 38/39 they may be able to get me a role as a trainee climber so that's promising. I will be moving careers over the next few months, obviously redundancy will make it much more comfortable. While I'm waiting for the decision I'm shopping for climbing kit and saws. What would your recommendations be for necessary kit to get into the business? Currently I have a very basic, mostly second hand climbing kit, small saw (Husky 135) and an echo top handle. I'm thinking expand climbing kit (longer new rope, maybe some shiny mechanical toys) and maybe a bigger saw - Husky 560? And a Silky - Natanoko?
  7. Last time I had fish and chips in Whitby, the fish was more like sushi :-(
  8. Bizarrely it also appears really hard to find someone willing to take people on. I wonder if past experience puts people off taking that risk? Especially with trainees etc. Even 'trainee' posts seem to want more and more tickets.
  9. FFS. Zigzag possibly, spiderjack or lackjack.
  10. What's the best size / male of rope to start - 1.7 or 13mm. Ideally I want something to last while I build confidence and that will work with friction hitches and mechanical devices. I was thinking 45 m so it covers everything. Im sticking to drt for now as advised but would like the chance to try other things out as and when. I have a second hand harness that I have no history of, if I get it loler'd is it going to last or shall I bite the bullet for a brand new one? Any other suggestions?
  11. What if stuff is off eBay or elsewhere? No history or dates? Is it then at the mercy of the loler inspector? Similarly, with bits of friction cord tied into loops, I guess they don't get put in for loler? How do you prove where / when they were cut from the original reel?
  12. I guess it depends what you're after - local colleges for those just finishing arb courses? Job centre? Local paper? Facebook groups?
  13. I do have some chainsaw boots but they're horribly tough, the tongue rubs my shin if I'm in them for long so these could potentially be the everyday boot. I'll have a look at the Werewolves
  14. I need a new pair of walking boots but also want a new pair of chainsaw boots more suited to climbing than the hulking great pair of treehog extreme boots I bought for 30/31. The walking side of it would be walking the dog a couple of miles a day, not proper hiking stuff - no worse than a bit a brash dragging. I've been looking at Meindl Airstreams or Scafell Lite boots. What does anyone think?
  15. It is available as a full kit Silverbull - Personal Arb Trauma Kit
  16. Can I just check a few things without starting a whole new thread? All PPE needs LOLER? Harness, all ropes etc? If kit is new does it automatically have a LOLER, which runs out after 6 months? Also, what is the life span of the various parts of PPE? Does anyone have any guides to LOLER I can look at anywhere on-line?
  17. If there are a few screws that are set to the same torque you could look at pre-set torque screwdrivers? On pushbikes a lot of the fixings are 5Nm so there's these handy little pre-set drivers. You can get them in other settings too
  18. Hi-Line provide PPE but expect you to provide your own saws
  19. Sorry. I'm a little sceptical. Get in touch with local arb firms. Offer voluntary work where you might make a difference, be enthusiastic. Be eager about the next opportunity. Go out there and MAKE them hire you, this may be the one opportunity that the PlayStation works in YOUR favour, while the old bastards work out what's happening!
  20. Except Bristol
  21. it's late enough that she'll be asleep much longer than me
  22. The mendiplogs thread had turned into a free for all ask anything thread, which is what I'm creating. I may or may not be asked for interview this week. One question they are asking is "You have to choose one saw to take to the nether world, which one do you take?" Top handle I've ordered an echo, but apparently I have to prove I'm not Nelson Mandela. What else should I buy before my wife wakes up? Stoat
  23. Anyone else got anything going? Looking for rope mainly
  24. Not sure if this is the best thread to ask but why do you need to be be able to send a copy of C38 to buy a top handle? I can go and buy any other saw without needing a copy of 30/31, so why do I with a top handle? And 38 is just climbing, surely it should be 39? I've got courses booked and was looking at getting one before hand. Looks like I won't be able to
