Hey Just seen your post. Just the time of year we will be looking for staff end of Feb/March

8. Hi everyone, I recently completed the 10 week tree surgery subsidiary diploma at Otley college near Ipswich. With the course I obtained CS30, 31, 38 & 39 along with an EFAW + F first aid certificate. I have had some groundwork experience over the past summer as well. I live in Ipswich and there doesnt seem to be many full time positions avaliable around suffolk advertised for climbers or groundsman, does anybody know of any work avaliable? I was hoping to secure a full time position as at the moment I only have PPE, not climbing equipment or saws yet so setting up as a contractor at the moment being just out of training might put me at a disadvantage when looking for jobs compared to more expereinced people. Anyhow, happy new year to everyone. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers
9. Currently living in Bristol looking to change to an arb career - seeing as I have no qualifications yet I need to decide on which one to do - there seem to be loads of different options. I'm origionally from Ipswich and have family there so I'm looking at moving back home to go to college with a view to getting an apprentiship when I can. Has anyone been to Otley & Easton college, or know how their courses stack up against the expensive intensive courses avaliable elseware? Cheers
10. Tell me about it, even offering every employer to do voluntary work turned up nothing, I had thought Bristol would be a better shout with it being a much bigger city - more oppertunities, but doesn't look that way.
11. Emailed all the companies I could find in Bristol, the only one that replied to me said I need the a qualification in order to start work, or to get an apprentiship. As such, now looking at going to College back in suffolk where I'm origionally from. Any thoughts on whether going to college for a year to begin with or doing an expensive intensive course is the best way to go?
12. Amazing, thanks guys. That's a great shout, I'll link up some companies and see what comes of it.
13. I'm posting here looking for some advice, I'm 24, a graduate in English Language and have worked in various offices for a few years now. I've always thought i'd like a career as an arborist/ tree surgeon, but seeing as I've only had experience working in offices the transition is a confusing one. I currently have no relevant qualifications/ CSCS card, (other than a head for heights and some climbing experience in my youth) and was hoping for some advice on the best way to enter the field. There seem to be a few pricey courses avaliable, however I am unsure as to whether these are necessary, in order to start work as a groundsman/ labourer? Any information/ advice from people already in the business on the best way to get involved would be greatly appreciated, so far all the jobs I have seen advertised require experience, which is a bit of a catch 22 if you're looking for first time employment within the sector. Cheers in advance for reading this rambling first post.
