  1. Not much, not great and yes but different areas different scenarios. So might be worth trying to speak to the guys where your going to work if possible mate
  2. 7-the jobs done
  3. I'd wait for the reports, not much else you can do at the moment unfortunately. Anything that gets said is just guessing atm.
  4. That's true but I'd hate to see the equivalent of a silky kiss from this weapon.
  5. That looks like it was designed for gang warfare not pruning trees.
  6. I'll get out in the sun with the logs next time I get a chance then :-)
  7. Some fantastic pictures Sean. I've been meaning to take some similar pictures of a few bits of dead mulberry but the iPhone just doesn't cut it. It's amazing how nature repeats similar patterns, very Jupiter surface like..
  8. Not that I would agree with screwing bits of 2X4 to the trunk of a old oak
  9. I guess it would depend. Firstly on the tree, on wether you are doing it for a tree in your garden for the kids, or getting paid to do it. I bet there are plenty of tpo'd trees with tree houses in them. I'd say I doubt anyone has got a fine for building one.
  10. Fair enough. Surly if your email your quotes over and they mail back saying that's fine that is a form of contract. I don't really want to go round asking every customer to sign a waver. Seems a bit extreme
  11. So I guess you just pop it in the small print of your quote. But then I'd still let people cancel if they give me 24 hours notice as I don't want to upset anyone. Is this common practice or am I being generous with 24 hours?
  12. I did think it sounded mental. What do these people expect us to do sit around wait for people to cancel work.
  13. So if I go and quote a job I have to leave it 2 weeks to do the job? Was kinda unaware of this (excuse my ignorants). Just a couple questions then... If it is an emergency job what is the outcome? You obviously can't leave some jobs 14 days. How many small businesses would be sticking to this? As I'm looking at setting up would I have to be without work for 2 weeks to stay legal? Same as if work is really quiet? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance people.
  14. Good stuff. I bloody hate rigging pops. Actually I hate climbing them as well. Nice use of a floating anchor as well
  15. They may just be worried because of the fuss ash dieback has caused and worried something similar may happen. I would avoid dumping anything there that did have a fungus (that you know of) as it can spread of it is quite an evasive type like honey etc
  16. Personally I think pay them the same as you would a groundy. Sounds like a stressful time for you mate. Just remember to take some time to focus on other things. I know it's hard. At least it's not sitting waiting for the phone to ring though
  17. Ok it's not all sunshine and rainbows but I still prefer it to the idea of sitting in an office. But if it gets so bad I don't want to do it anymore then I'll look in to other areas of tree work or other industry's
  18. That's fair enough but I know chippys who earn £200 a day but still moan about wages. In all honesty if you want to make a decent wage in any game you have to set up shop yourself.
  19. That's true for me too, but then I look at the other jobs out there and think Na sod it I'll stick to being up this big beech on a sunny winters morning.
  20. It all depends on area, if they are good at grinding a stump out properly so your not getting phone calls all the time saying there only an inch below ground level. Also I'm not sure wether you are allowed to send one guy out on his own, but I may be wrong on that.
  21. Need trick. A mate once had a BMW repeatedly blocking his garage and had asked him not to on several occasions. One morning it happened again and he brought a council looking wheel clamp popped it on the tossers shinny new rims with a mock parking ticket and threw the key away. The guy spent hours with an angle grinder trying to get the clamp off after (I would assume) finding out it was all a hoax. The silly bugger even put a hole in his tyre. Safe to say he found a new parking space about 10 yards down the road after that.
  22. Thanks mate. Just thought about how I deal with things like that when I have to
