  1. Right I have done my fair share of climbing and after several years know my strengths and weaknesses. I figure it is about time I admit a major weakness of mine is general throwing of ropes due to having dislocated both my shoulders in the past (my right one being an ongoing issue). If I have to use a throw line more times than not I use a groundy to do it, but feel it is unfair as I am the climber and feel like it is a duty of mine. Same situation if I need to throw a rope from the ground. I have no issues climbing a tree once in it, and have always found a way to get to the top of any tree i have climbed usually quite quickly. I'm just looking to see if anyone else suffers from similar issues and if anyone can give me any tips or tricks as to improve my throw. Any advice would be much appreciated with throw lines and general rope throwing. Thanks in advance people.
  2. Did she become a singer song writer? Sound better than some of the tripe in the chats nowadays haha
  3. Nice little watch that. Make you realise how much the engine actually works.
  4. It will all become clear when you read the subsidence thread. To answer as best I can I'd take a stab at leylandii
  5. I'd say if your PAYE it is only fair to pay the staff if wether is too bad, but that being said it's a yard day if nothing else. If wether is catastrophic and you can't make it in I think maybe look at paying half wages as it can't be helped and no one is to blame. But as an employer you can pick up the guys if there moaning that they can't make it in but they obviously can. I've seen many lads change there tune when the boss has said no worries I'll pick you up in the 4X4 and see this 4ft of snow filling your road.
  6. It's got a back haven't it ;-)
  7. Looks like you should have given Kevin mccloud a call. Nice work mate, looks the dogs.
  8. Not much, not great and yes but different areas different scenarios. So might be worth trying to speak to the guys where your going to work if possible mate
  9. 7-the jobs done
  10. I'd wait for the reports, not much else you can do at the moment unfortunately. Anything that gets said is just guessing atm.
  11. That's true but I'd hate to see the equivalent of a silky kiss from this weapon.
  12. That looks like it was designed for gang warfare not pruning trees.
  13. I'll get out in the sun with the logs next time I get a chance then :-)
  14. Some fantastic pictures Sean. I've been meaning to take some similar pictures of a few bits of dead mulberry but the iPhone just doesn't cut it. It's amazing how nature repeats similar patterns, very Jupiter surface like..
  15. Not that I would agree with screwing bits of 2X4 to the trunk of a old oak
  16. I guess it would depend. Firstly on the tree, on wether you are doing it for a tree in your garden for the kids, or getting paid to do it. I bet there are plenty of tpo'd trees with tree houses in them. I'd say I doubt anyone has got a fine for building one.
  17. Fair enough. Surly if your email your quotes over and they mail back saying that's fine that is a form of contract. I don't really want to go round asking every customer to sign a waver. Seems a bit extreme
  18. So I guess you just pop it in the small print of your quote. But then I'd still let people cancel if they give me 24 hours notice as I don't want to upset anyone. Is this common practice or am I being generous with 24 hours?
  19. I did think it sounded mental. What do these people expect us to do sit around wait for people to cancel work.
  20. So if I go and quote a job I have to leave it 2 weeks to do the job? Was kinda unaware of this (excuse my ignorants). Just a couple questions then... If it is an emergency job what is the outcome? You obviously can't leave some jobs 14 days. How many small businesses would be sticking to this? As I'm looking at setting up would I have to be without work for 2 weeks to stay legal? Same as if work is really quiet? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance people.
  21. Good stuff. I bloody hate rigging pops. Actually I hate climbing them as well. Nice use of a floating anchor as well
  22. They may just be worried because of the fuss ash dieback has caused and worried something similar may happen. I would avoid dumping anything there that did have a fungus (that you know of) as it can spread of it is quite an evasive type like honey etc
  23. Personally I think pay them the same as you would a groundy. Sounds like a stressful time for you mate. Just remember to take some time to focus on other things. I know it's hard. At least it's not sitting waiting for the phone to ring though
