  1. Had a lady say to a work mate. "I thought you were quite skilled the way you handled your chopper". Had me crying with laughter behind a hedge and him staring her in the face trying not to laugh.
  2. Check the clutch springs and the bearing. Usually a clutch problem if the chain brake is cutting the saw out. I guess everyone has said this though.
  3. On this whole topic the boss man put in a quote a few days ago for a big conifer fell. By wires, sheds and a monster drag. Dense tree about 70ft. Put in a quote for £1050, a full day for 4 men, plus a morning getting the logs out do 2 men. I saw the job and would have said he got the quote spot on, maybe a little cheep. But heard today that he didn't get the job as someone went in for £500. I have no idea how whoever quoted this thought that's a good price, unless he is massively underpaying his workers.
  4. Spoke to a friend today who works for an insurance company and he said yes any incident does need to be mentioned and no it wouldn't effect your no clams. Sorry if I got on anyone's nerves just wanted to clear it up for my own personal peace of mind, so I know what to do if needed. Thanks for the help people
  5. I wasn't looking to avoid telling my insurance if there were an incident, I just wanted to make sure if Something did happen I would know what to do. Don't want to loose a load of no clams if not needed.
  6. Yeah I see but then is that a gov official. There are others that say it's not your issue as you are driving a completely different vehicle to your car. Eg if you drive a lorry or a bus for a living it is a completely deferent thing to driving a car. Also your risk of an accident is much higher if you are driving for a living. Also if you are not a named driver on there insurance then it cant be traced back to you personally. It just got me thinking if I crash in a work van and it means I'll loose out with my no clams then maybe I should be asking for more money. I'm not saying your wrong. I just don't want to end up in the crap if something does happen. Would it be different for different policy's maybe?
  7. Are sure of this as I'm sure he didn't tell his own insurance as he spoke to a solicitor who said it doesn't need to be mentioned as it was under another companies insurance.
  8. This is spot on, I worked with a guy not that long ago, fresh out of collage and expected £120 a day, and he said if he doesn't get it the company can sod off, he was a complete idiot but the reason he thought that way was because whoever he did his training with had told him to expect £120 a day. It's fine for a climber with experience but not for a young lad who thinks he knows everything and won't get out on the tips of branches because he knows better than someone who has been climber for several years and the branch will snap.... The branch didn't snap
  9. Interesting thread. Money can be made in the industry but like others have said you need to run your own show or get in with the right company and push yourself to get more tickets and licences. I as it stands am on pretty poor money for the role I play, but am not here to complain as the way I see it it's like it or lump it, nothing gets on my nerves more than people moping around all day complaining about crap wages and long hours (if it's that bad you can leave, it's your right as a human being). I'm planning on getting my C1+B licence so when I go and sub for companies I have that to bring to the table on top of my experience in leading roles and climbing. I didn't think the driver should get paid more until someone I worked with in a previous company had an accident and had to pay for his mistake by paying off the damage done over several months, ended up costing them more than a grand in total. I think if you run a company you run the risk of things like traffic accidents happening and you should not expect them to fork out for it, or pay them more if you do. But perviously mentioned someone said if you crash in a company truck your premium goes up on your insurance, this isn't true as far as I'm aware. It's company's insurance, there issue. The diver will however have to take points or fines on speeding offences. This is a good debate and one I will keep a keen eye on as it relative to what I am planning on doing with my life over the next year.
  10. Looks like a great truck mate. Gonna buy a couple of scratch cards in the morning and hope for the best. Definitely the truck I would like later on.
  11. Depends what waist higher they are on about I'd say. Great piece of art.
  12. A sad loss. I think it is bad of the bbc for getting his name wrong considering all he did for them.
  13. A shame indeed but inevitable I fear. Personally I love them despite all the leeks and breakdowns. There are full of character and that goes a hell of a long way in this world of modern wagons. Still life goes on..
  14. That's true. But 50 is the new 40 or so they say. May have just been starting a new career. It's true you can't change some peoples ways, so why try. If you went up and said what do you think your doing you would have just got a load of abuse. If you tell the council they would not bother doing anything about it. I think it's terrible this sort of crap goes on on a daily bases but instead of getting angry about it I just think that tree will probably rot out now creating a habitat for wildlife. Every cloud and all that.
  15. It does beg the question where do we draw the line. I have done some shoddy reductions in my time (well it's because of the 'stupid bloody tree'). How bad is too bad? We live in a world where people have limitations and need to learn how to do a decent reduction (that means practice). So as the old saying goes got to brake a few eggs to make an omelette. People criticise way to easily and sometimes it's best to give a little slack. Ok spiking up a birch to reduce it is going to far in my opinion but then maybe the customers said 'would you mind just really messing my tree up for me? Because I love crap looking trees. Who knows.
  16. That's unbelievable. He should try and get it listed. Or failing that knock the wall down and build it 2ft out. Some people. I'd be inclined to get a partition together.
  17. Oh hold that, is that the 4x4 iveco? I've only ever seen them raised before.
  18. That 7.5 looks pretty sweet mate. Are they new? I've only ever seen the iveco eurocargo in there 7.5 range. Doubt I have the budget for one at the moment. Maybe in the future. Also are the 4x4 dailys 7.5?
  19. Thanks people this is all good advice and I am taking it on board. I want to get the licence anyway but would like to find a smallish 7.5t truck so getting in and out of those tight roads isn't going to be to much of a pain.
  20. So would you suggest a 4x4? I was looking at something to get me by to start off with. Don't plenty of people run just transits or cabstars etc? I would ideally need something that isn't to bulky to start with as a fair amount of the work I will be doing will be city based. Avoiding narrow streets with big trucks is always handy. Not moaning at your advise as its all well revived by the way.
  21. True. I'm thinking I will go for it but probably stick with a 3.5 truck for the first year or so, unless I really have to up grade
  22. This is true and I surprise having the C1+E gives me an advantage when I sub for other companies when work is dry.
  23. Would 7m3 not be over 3.5? Unfortunately I don't have the cash to splash out on a second truck as I'm starting out. Took me a long while to save for the one plus chipper and the rest lol.
  24. Yeah you have to get the C1 then go through the plus E again. Pain in the arse and just another way for the DVLA to make a bit more cash. But rules is rules as they say
  25. Was thinking that to be honest just don't want to get done on the weight limit but I have worked for a few companies who run over the limit all the time, and not one of them have been palled, it's just Sod's law it would happen if I was to do it.
