Sthil is the only pole saw that I have used personally and I have never heard of better. However what hight clearance do you need as you may need something with a little more height. In which case it may be with hiring in a MEWP for a day and getting it all done quick time.

I would like to add, I practiced for a couple of hours Sunday morning and low and behold I have improved. However my shoulder feels like a truck has hit it, hopefully it won't take 2 hours to hit the mark next time I need to use one. Thanks for all the advice it is greatly appreciated.

That's the one mate. Been looking around but for something under £60 per sheet is rare as rocking horse dodo it would seem. Then it's shipping which unfortunately is about the same price on top. I may just have to bite the bullet and splash my cash. But ten years use on an oily floor and still going strong, sounds like it may just be worth the cost. Thanks for clarifying what I was on about mate

Yeah I use them now but they just get smashed up to easily, and they don't like the wet. I was thinking rubber matting because its durable and not a fixed shape, good for folding over the apex of a roof :-).

That sounds perfect, shows how hard I was looking haha. The weight thing might be an issue, I didn't really think about that. What do other people use? Foam is probably a little too light weight unfortunately. Thanks for the replays

Hey people I've been looking for 4 rubber gym mats to put on shed/greenhouse roofs etc when working. Been online looking for them but they are all silly money when you factor in the shipping costs (around £300) :-/. Just wondering if anyone on here has used this kind of thing instead of boards and if you use them anyone know where to get them from? (on the cheep). I've phoned round some indoor climbing walls and some gyms but no luck as yet. Was looking for some 6x4ft 1" thick kind of thing, give or take. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance people. :-)

I think you have sold them to me, I'll still have a block but they seem to be a useful bit to have in the kit bag. Gonna have to look in to splicing as well I guess. Thanks for the input, have seen them popping up more and more, and figured it's time to get some advice on them.

What kind of loads can the x-rings take? Was looking in to buying them, seems a fairly simple set up. You got any pros and cons to say about them as opposed to a rigging block? Any advice appreciated mate. Also nice view of my hometown.

It's down to personal preference but I really don't get on with the husky, I find a lot of people jumped on the husky band wagon because they didn't like the original 201 and have had enough of sthil (that's the impression I get anyway). I like the 201 but still prefer the 200, I found they lot a bit of guts when they lost the emissions. The husky probably has more torque but the whole saw feels like some fisher price toy to me, and I hate the balance of it. But as said before they are both good saws it's just what you feel is best in your hand.

Thanks for the advice people I think the cradle shot is going to be the way forward. I have a couple of hours spare Sunday morning so I will get down to the pack with the little one and let her run off some steam while I practice the old sand bag technique. Thanks for the videos as well, all very helpful. I'll let everyone know how I get on.

I will try and visualise the target a bit more as it has been advised to me before. I love the idea of a big shot but would like to try and get the technique a bit more.

Dealing crack but i guess everyone does that nowadays ;-). In all honesty I have no energy to look for new ways to make money after work. Money just isn't as important as family time nowadays.

Right I have done my fair share of climbing and after several years know my strengths and weaknesses. I figure it is about time I admit a major weakness of mine is general throwing of ropes due to having dislocated both my shoulders in the past (my right one being an ongoing issue). If I have to use a throw line more times than not I use a groundy to do it, but feel it is unfair as I am the climber and feel like it is a duty of mine. Same situation if I need to throw a rope from the ground. I have no issues climbing a tree once in it, and have always found a way to get to the top of any tree i have climbed usually quite quickly. I'm just looking to see if anyone else suffers from similar issues and if anyone can give me any tips or tricks as to improve my throw. Any advice would be much appreciated with throw lines and general rope throwing. Thanks in advance people.
