  1. I have both. Had my 550 since 2012 and has only needed one brake band. exhaust is well drilled and runs 15" and 18" bars with 3/8th chain. Had the ea5000 just over a year. It is slightly heavier when you pick them up side by side, but that vanishes in use. The 5000 is a far smoother/ vibe free saw to use and I find it handles as well if not better than the 550. It felt slighly flat compared to the 550 at first, as it has no rev-boost, but it does rev well and I think it is slightly torquier. It runs a 3/8 chain just fine and I pick it up before the 550 now.
  2. Most utilities cutters in the south-west, that's who!!
  3. Good luck to you and family Mark, didn't know you had moved on. Exciting times.
  4. Would any of you guys that have the cs390, be able to stick up some videos of the saw cutting. I have seen Robs couple, but there isn't much cutting action. Be good to get an idea of how well they cut at max bar length if possible please.
  5. Never had an l200, how do you put them in 4wd? Is it old school levers or do you push a button for 4wd and then have a lever for high and low box? If the latter, chances are it is vacuum operated and you may have a split vacuum hose in the system.
  6. My makita ea5000 has an S shape configuration on the cap, which puts pressure on two points if using a screwdriver to undo it as opposed to the center of the cap which then breaks them. Are the new ones S shaped?
  7. Thanks. Not bought one yet, yours are the best price I have found.
  8. They are a cracking saw. Have 18", 24" and 28" bars on mine. Never had an issue with it apart from the oil cap. Don't use the brake unless it kicks on itself. Don't know why people buy secondhand 441's and 460's when these are £550 new.
  9. Andrew, are you saying that there are new style caps available and if so do you have any?
  10. Anyone else with one of these have a problem with getting the chain oil cap off? I have cracked two caps now. They seem to tighten in use or expand and then crack when I go to loosen them. I have tried a little grease on the seal, not that it should be needed with chain oil around it, and even if I don't fully tighten it, if used and then left, the next time I try it it can be a bugger to get off. Any other style of cap from a different make or model fit?
  11. Do you know when the echo cs 390esx will be back in stock please.
  12. Hi Ken, hope all is good with you. I had noticed over time you were going the echo way. Think I might go with the 390 as I already have the ea5000. Now to find the best price.
  13. Looking at getting a small saw, was thinking either makita ea4300 or echo cs390esx. Anyone used either or had a chance to run both side by side? Makita has 1/2hp more than the echo, but carries a little more weight, 4.9kg compared to 4.5kg.
  14. Wow, never seen someone run in all different directions at the same time before.

What make of mill is that?
  16. The Chinese ones don't compare to the likes of Balfour, but it's horses for courses. I'm on a very limited budget and log on a small scale, so the price and item quality suited me fine. They are such a simple machine and easily worked on. Replace the belts with quality items, change the engine oil regularly and there is no reason it won't keep going. I have just moved onto a small petrol processor to make life even easier, I don't do any more logs, just getting older.
  17. Mine was £550 from Germany. Run of the mill made in China with a 13hp honda clone engine. Starts first time and have only had to replace the drive belts with better quality ones. It has cut a lot of timber and has paid for itself cutting other peoples log piles.
  18. I have a similar version to this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/700-MM-PETROL-CIRCULAR-LOG-SAW-4-STROKE-9KW-12-2-HP-SCHEPPACH-HS700GE/162866022549?epid=3013243538&hash=item25eb924895:g:SG8AAOSw1GlaZw3T They cut 10" diam logs, or cut and rotate larger ones. They are far quicker and a lot less strenuous to use than a chainsaw.
  19. If it's only when cutting 4"+ stuff, then perhaps it's a lack of power in the saw, slowing the chain down enough to stop the smooth cutting of a fast chain.
  20. How much were the snowmen and trees selling for? Some nice turning there.
  21. I thought the home owner could phone up the DNO and tell them their concerns, this would then be classed as a customer request and passed onto their utility cutting teams.
  22. What a great thread and very interesting to get peoples take on things. I personally don't think that there can be a right or wrong version, what feels right for me is right for me and so applies to you all. I "believe" that we are spirit, just a ball of energy if you like and our bodies are just a vessel that we borrow for a short time to be able to experience the earth plane. The brain is just the control centre of the body, so plays no part in the "I" or Self. I feel that we are here to learn and grow and are able to choose to experience multiple lifetimes to develop our spiritual selves. There is no being better than someone else, just different states of awareness. We are all teachers and students to one-another, we trigger thoughts ,feelings, emotions, actions and reactions, what you do with these and how you use them for your spiritual growth is the purpose of life to me. As for free will, I think we all have it. You can choose your actions and reactions, control your thoughts and feelings, master your own little bit of the world. What other people do with it is up to them, that is not your concern, that is their learning. Just my little take on it.
  23. So much from China these days, it's just a case of working out what has been produced for an outside company that still oversees the quality control and what is produced down to a price by a Chinese company.
  24. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/245-70-16-115Q-KUMHO-MT51-MUD-TERRAIN-TYRES-X-4-DELIVERED-PRICE/192394532096?epid=2041513900&hash=item2ccb9b9500:g:7Q8AAOSwB09YJucM I run these. I class them as an aggressive all terrain as they seem to perform as a good all-rounder. Never got on with "normal" AT tyres, as to me, they don't perform that well on road and are useless off road. Not a fan of BF ATs, get them off of any vehicle I have bought with them on. Slide around in the wet on the road and turn to slicks in the mud.
