Somehow along the way, I have acquired an 8ft ring kiln, no lid or chimneys, just the ring. Was going to make a lid up or turn it into a fish pond. I'm suspecting not, but any good?

How about the woodlandsmill petrol powered one that is advertised on the milling section of the forum. At just over £6k I'm sure it would fit the domestic bit of the equation. What sort of prices are the ones above?

Not sure what it consists of, but can a catalytic thingy be removed from a chainsaw exhaust without any harm to the saw? Anyone got any pictures of what is in a cat exhaust?

Doesn't look like a wasp nest from that picture or your description. Can't shed any light on what it is though, maybe a fungal growth. Please don't go squashing wasps, everything has its' place. Think we all know the biggest pest species on this planet!

I also have the 7900 and run it on a 28" bar and 36" (copy) alaskan mill. Like you say, they take a couple of minutes to warm and then clear their throat and let rip

Do we basically dislike the new generations of saws?

Had my 550xpg since 2012 and it has needed one brake band and that's it. Always starts, hot or cold. Makita 7900 is a new old style carb saw if you like and I love that also. Starts straight up, clears it's throat until warm and then rips away I wouldn't think twice about buying another modern auto-tune saw, but the maki has also shown me that the "traditional" saws have come on also. Will be looking at maki, dolmar, echo when/if the 550 dies. -

How is doing the right thing grassing If I see a drunk, driving off in their car, I will be straight on the phone. Is that grassing, no, it's looking out for the next innocent family crossing the road. Winds me up that people feel they have to tip-toe around in case they upset someone. If you don't like the rules and regulations of the country you live in, then do one! Oh, and no I haven't used "ratedpeople"

Steady on Stefan, don't blow a gasket! If the customer has already made his intentions clear about illegally removing a TPO tree, the best thing to do is inform the local tree officer. It's not grassing, it's doing the right thing

Kind of obvious that the quality is going to be a little less than something costing 3 times as much (would hope so anyway). If I were milling full time, then, like any tool in full time use, I would spend the money. For occasional use and diy projects these will be fine. I also think there is a difference between cheap Chinese "rubbish" and items made cheaper from china.
