Interesting post to which I hope theres a happy ending. We do the TPO checks by phone for every job but get their name as it can usually be done here by any qualified council staff. If we waited for an email reply we'd still be waiting. If its a rush/weekend job I'd like to wait til Monday but did once have to rely on a note signed by the householder stating he'd checked altho' I don't know if that'd satisfy a TPO bent on a prosecution.

I like the look of Skoda's Yeti & it gets really good write ups but I've no experience of them. Not much ground clearance mind but should be good on road for that reason.

Yes, IMO this country is one of the best despite our politicians. I did 8 yrs in Germany, ok it was army service but...never took to it & we did consider Canada yrs ago, just never took it further.

Good for him. We had 4 at one time when my son started smithing at 16 until he lost interest recently, after building him a forge etc in the workshop. The heaviest was huge but didn't stop the thieves taking it prob just to weigh it in.

'02 Disco td5 that cost £5k, too good to get knocked about but good to meet customers/quotes etc & an '02 L200 of my son's that cost him £3k. Both have been excellent for heavy towing but IMO theres no truck suitable for every occasion. Won't be long before we'll need a Tranny tipper to chip into rather than using the 4 wheel trailer with greedy boards.

I noticed that Transit tippers have space to store pole hedgecutters etc under the body which were hidden & looked fairly secure with the body dropped.

Hard to say, guess it depends on workload, distances & type of work undertaken. We (just) manage to make do with a couple of 4x4s, one with large 4 wheel trailer, the other with a small chipper on trailer. Good luck if you're looking at tippers, went to see several Transits on Auto trader & all turned out to be rubbish, hence us making do...for now.

I love axeing the smaller stuff into kindling but hire (the agreed...boring but efficient) elec splitter for £15 for a week, usually returning it the same day. Guess it depends how dry/dense the wood is.

+1. Did she get any further with offering this service? It'd be useful to know where to send them & roughly what sort of cost. Disregarding the valid points re CE continuity & ins claim invalidity, does anyone know if kevlar can be bought anywhere should any have been lost or am I getting into the realms of pointlessness?

Good luck to all who get tickets. Never done it myself so no chance of a win but might've saved £1000s over the years. Camelot do some good with the money but from what I hear they also waste a load on 'good causes' much like our wonderful:sneaky2: politicians.

Hey Tony. I'm in much the same situation, with 2 sons who are employed as arborists, climbing etc. I'm semi ret with little exp of tree work so did the basic cert for 'chainsaw use/felling small trees' to be safe as their groundie & generally be their dogsbody. We were advised by an accountant who said to reg as partners so we are legal for private work. Waste carrier lic & p/l ins in place, just saving for a tipper but are hoping that they will be able to go it alone once we've got a reputation. Good luck.

I found a tourniquet to be the only option when my father took his hand (almost) off with a circular saw, so long as you loosen it at strictly regular intervals. Except for slight nerve damage made a full recovery too. Agreed that direct pressure is usually best where possible.

Don't know about the legalities but after his climbing course our son was so fired up he regularly climbed the highest trees in the local park with ropes etc. It was in a quiet spot & there was no problem whatsoever, other than our grandson getting upset seeing his dad hanging out of the top.
