  1. Hope the driver wasn't asleep in the cab.
  2. I just checked & mine is a 'long reach' but I didn't know about extension poles. Chainsaw massacre, ha. Trouble is then I'd need to buy/work off high but stable stepladders. If more, similar jobs are forthcoming I'll have to invest. Thanks.
  3. Ok, so I've learnt the basics of treework but was asked to trim my first hedge, a neighbour's large, old & gnarly conifer hedge which is 30 mtrs long, 1 1/2 mtrs thick & 3 mtrs high. I have a Stihl pole hedgecutter which is just 6' long, double sided & found it easier to cut only upwards/sideways. Do you use trestles/ladders or just a longer pole. How about using a guide line to keep it level? Or once experienced do it by eye. To me & her, it looks reasonable but I'm hoping to improve so any views will be appreciated. Starting to think maybe I need a longer & more manly machine. Sorry, took no before/after pics.
  4. Good choice...nice but want to see it dirty too.
  5. Hailo gets our vote. Veratile & so far, strong although it is just the 10 step. Cost around £200 I think.
  6. Yeah, it seems certain to me that given the size of the Milky Way, we're not alone. Certainly puts our personal problems into perspective, I mean what would it matter if this planet disappeared overnight:001_huh:...other than I wasted money changing the Disco oil.
  7. How quick does she move when the fire sparks lol?
  8. Had an '07 D3 which was used for towing a boat then got dunked up to the axles in seawater. Loved it for road driving but too good & IMO unsuitable for use in the woods as they were just too many gizmos to go wrong. Didn't keep it long enough to find how reliable it was though.
  9. Yes, I can understand that but the partners in our firm are my sons so hopefully we'll continue to rub along.
  10. Ha...good pic. Sometimes wonder what we've been climbing, when you see how core soft/hollow some are. Is there a simple way to tell, other than maybe drilling into the trunk first?
  11. Wally, we don't know each other but from what others have said, its my loss. I've known others like you & its been a real pleasure. Regards & respect, Les.

    Rabbits

I shoot around the Medway so yes, plenty drowned but doesn't seem to have thinned the numbers much. Hmmm...rabbit madras sounds good.

    Rabbits

I also help out a couple of farmers with their massive rabbit numbers. Only one of the other shooters tell me they've noticed mixxy but I've only seen one case in the last 2 yrs. Haven't heard of the disease you mention but will ask. Mine go for mate's dog food.
  14. Not sure about licences but you'll probably need an agent (accountant) to deal with HMRC. For chainsaw use & the felling of trees, the relevant CS tickets, altho' not strictly needed, I wouldn't advertise or take payment for work without having them & similarly for operation of chipper/stumpgrinder. Public liability (PL) insurance & maybe Employers Liability too. Theres some debate re whether EL is needed but its fairly cheap so IMO not worth the risk of being without. There may be more but thats all I can think of now altho' if you plan to work for the council there might be more hoops to jump re HSE/1st aid.
  15. But shut that door, its drafty. 62 this July so easily qualifed for this thread. Almost no experience at this tree lark but loving every minute of working with 2 sons for the last year. They do the climbing & I drag the brash & generally pay for everything:confused1:. Eyes are on starting to go but otherwise ok, hoping for plenty more of the same.
  16. MY son In Cornwall has perfected such a 'spud gun' that fires whole turnips!
  17. The fuzz used to issue parking dispensation on request but since the council took responsibility a few years back, it'll be down to them. No doubt its more complicated & needs some notice but should be possible for the exact reason you give.

    Disgusting!

I heard that Dale farm was starting to get occupied once more? I went to our council tip where they first stopped me entering in the family Discovery as it was classed by them as commercial so had to use a barrow. When they saw me with 5 tyres the jobsworth turned red:ohmy: & it was "Oh no, you can't tip them here. Go to special tip 12 miles away." Trying to do the right thing I drove got there & was charged £18 for my trouble. Next time they'll go in black sacks & into local tip.
  19. Bird table here is full but red squirrels? Oh yeah, I remember them.
  20. From Edinburgh, bloody hell they weren't that big.
  21. Hi all. Took down some large ones the other day & just wondered how suitable it might be once seasoned?
