Yes c32 large tree says learn how to uses wedges & a winch for hung up tree Just asking for which wedges people would recommend to get as don't have any apart from smallest oregon On cs31 I only used a felling lvr I think, never really used wedges etc.

Is it worth getting some new wedges as only have the small plastic oregon ones. Looking at the K H plastic ones come in a set . Or two high lift for about £50 plus spare wooden bits etc

3 acres for 50k don't think you will make anything from harvesting etc 10yrs ago probably could of bought 20 arces for same price though so maybe land price will increase even more?

Anyone use them? Alot of clearance by consevation volunteers locally of rhody but stumps just reprout is not sprayed. Thinking they should get on of theese as alot of rhody fairly small shallow rooted I think if would work well on alot of it. This one looks the best designed.

Planting Hardwoods under strong Birch regen??

If for amenity why not just leave majority of the birch too regen. Maybe just clear some paths to walk along round site. If volunteers want oaks etc they can create mini clearings along side of the paths for oaks etc. Oaks are fast growing would soon hold there own against birch after a few yrs of locally clearing round each tree...... -

Very rot resitant if kept wet apparently, venice built on alder pillings & was used for water pipes... http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/46506 Roman alder water pipes still in good nick? Also clogs (Wet all time walking in mud)..... But leave a stack of alder out in the woods they rot fast so odd that?

Whats happing to all the ash trees where you are.? Locally alot of mature hegde row trees are effected,a few are completely dead, loads are half dead, a few still look healthy. Not seen any felled even the many 100% dead ones over roads. They will start dropping large branches soon. Seems a shame all that firewood is going to waste, on the other hand a suppose all the standing dead wood is good habitat. Countryside is going to look very barren with no trees left apart from the odd sycamore as i'd say ash was over 80% of the hedge trees round here. Its still not the same after all the elms dissapered from the hegdes, when/if all ash goes won't be many trees at all left in large areas of farm land. Maybe there needs to be some goverment scheme for restocking hegderow trees, though plantin in hegdes is abit tricky?

Cutting/felling/snedding doesn't take very long but clearing /tidying brash takes ages., least birch brash stacks easy.
