  1. I like plastic/fibre glass handle less jolt than the hickory. Mines just a unbranded yellow fibre handle maul was about £15 new and has lasted yrs, I sharpen it ocassionally. Loads on ebay around £20 Go for a 6lbs one with 36" handle Something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BULLDOG-Splitting-Axe-6Lb-Premier-Axe-for-Wood-Logs-and-Kindling-/321179684050 Alot of old axes are felling axes not right shape head for splitting & handles are to short. Another thing, if the axe gets stuck in the wood you can turn the axe round upside down and bang the back of the axe on the chopping block, it acts abit like like hitting axe with a sledge hammer and splits the wood stuck on the blade of the axe using the extra weight of the wood.
  2. Id like to try the fiskers x36 or x46 or this.....
  3. I got the fiskers x27 & don't think its as good as a cheap the maul I had already. The x27 ok for smaller diameter nice striaght grained logs bit struggles with any big knarly stuff.

  15. Holly, Yew, Bay. A hedge would screen more than a tree but neeeds more maintenace Smaller trees often establish faster/better & often catch up with bigger planted trees after a few yrs, so I wouldn't plant a costly very big tree unless you want to spend for instant impact.
  16. Ha thats a disgrace really taking the piss, so the extra riveted panel with sticky label with safety info has knackered the whole handle... Was that plastic bit riveted on suppose to make it stronger oe sometinh I just don't get why the did that?
  17. Iv'e read it yrs ago but can't remember much about it apart from in being abit "dark" or something. Think iv'e read all his books, i like the Ian m banks sci-fi ones.
  18. Any really rotton stuff you could stack them up somewhere as a habitat for the bugs as they won't burn well. Waht species is the tree silver birch rots fast....... http://www.bbc.co.uk/breathingplaces/wood_pile/
  19. This thread needs some pictures. Some times knotty wood is hard to split but also rotton wood can be hard to split as goes like sponge. Maybe buy this book: Norwegian Wood ?? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Norwegian-Wood-Non-fiction-Book-Year/dp/0857052551
  20. This one because of its name: Silky cheerful hand music 500MM https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/wallstyle/item/engeinokogiri0168/ Bad translation? ??
  21. I have stihl dynamic trousers type c (allround protection) class 1 lasted well & being used & abused for yrs. Class 1 won't stop a bigger saw with faster chain speed as well as class 2 though.
  22. This one 325HE3? Doesn't it have a harness attachment loop cant' see one....? Echo, efco & Stihl do a similar one also Also looking @ makitas because they are cheaper than the other top brands "pro" versions can't find any feedback on them though.
  23. Does anyone use a "short shaft long reach" with a regular strimmer harness for nearly all stuff? Kind of have an idea that may be best type of do it all machine for the majority hegdes, less hard work but not tried one.
