Have one without chainbrake Heavy & not that powerful compared to modern saw. Why did the make them without proper rear handle seems poor ergonomics? There like a giant old fat topper saw

On getting the wood down to 15% moisture in a kiln won't it just reabsorb water in the UK climate? Look up about equilibrium moisture content % : Splitting increases the surface to volume ratio of the wood & increases the surfaces not covered in bark so wood drys faster. Polytunnel is usful for drying wood kind of a solar kiln.

Really annoys me when people don't come back too remove them after a few yrs & they litter the place looking untidy, & also sometimes the trees grows into them & they damage the trunk etc. Could they not make them out of biodegrable material? Had a google & couldn't find any biodegradable ones for sale. Some are marketed as eco ones say that the plastic had less UV stabalizer in them so they break into bits faster, which sounds worse than the normal ones, if you want to be tidy & remove them.

I don't see the point in kiln drying apart from as a marketing exercise for firewood sellers. Wood seasons fine in a shed just takes longer.

I found seasoned wood is alot worse for bunging up air filter than green alot more fine dust. As for sprockets im unsure what is officially classed as worn out, as opposed to abit worn.

Hard to say from pictures but looks like is leaning over the steep bank/river & may get hung up in thoose other trees on the other side if felled from ground. Looks more like a job for a climber?

Hi being doing abit of hedge laying. Told its it bad technique when the pleachers split either down into base or up the trunk... Alot of pictures on internet the pleachers have really long cuts on the bigger diameter stuff so a very long hinge area which I assume reduces chance or pleacher splitting? (Maybe where i was going wrong my cuts were shorter and @ less steep angle than picture below) Looks hard to do with a handsaw billhook & axe I assume they are mostly done using chainsaw? Or does billhook or axe just neet to ne razor sharp etc to get cuts the that long.

If the trees were younger/smaller they might of established ok due to tree crown to root ratio, younger trees having more roots for less top, also dependent on the local rainfall in the first few yrs etc. But perhaps a smaller tree may be no good for street planting as would need more maintence prunning in situ? -
Is the rotate 4 chain thing to reduce sprocket wear. Stihl say in there info to use a " 4-2-1 method" 4 chains for 2 bars 1 sprocket & replacement ratio.

Got it off with a homemade tool made from a 3 ft length of wood with 3 nails stuck in the end so had plenty of leverage Loads of black gunk underneath I think the worm on mine has worn shorter either end as it seems short of the lugs on the bottom of the sprocket so they don't seem to turn it. Here is a picture of the part from the internet "worm" or PUMP DRIVE 181 245 090 Is this usually the bit what wears out?

Hi can't get the clutch off with pliers. Looks like I might need to try make my own a tool or buy the special dolmar tool. Tool is about 35 euro Length of plate with 3 screws?

I think the oil pump is knackered on my 420sc as its stopped oiling. Tried various things read on forums etc to unblock it but not luck. Anyone dismantled one to acess the oil pump, from reading the repair manual seems pretty complicated? Maybe it didn't like veg oil. I have being using it for about 3 yrs with veg oil. Also is the makita ea4300f the exact same saw in blue as the dolmar 420sc?
