Hi all, completely new here but I’ve seen similar posts through google here so thought I’d ask my own.
Thursday afternoon I brought in maybe 20 logs and stacked them to each side of our wood burner. The wood had come from trees in my grandads garden which I then chopped into smaller pieces with an axe. We are currently rennovating the garden for him, hence free fire wood for us. Several pieces of logs (from a different tree) were rotten, so I left them in the wood shed and didn’t bring them inside. My concern however is that last night (Friday night) my partner said she thought it was unsafe to have wood so close to the fire so I googled it like you do and found posts on the topic of storing wood near fires, which people had obviously said not to do. And then there was mention of wood worm, which then gave me a sleepless night of worry that I’ve brought in woodworm. Sounds silly I know.
I took the logs out of the house last night and checked them once they were back in the shed and there are no signs of holes or insects, I even pulled the bark off to check. I was googling till the early hours and some people say they aren’t active this time of year and others say that woodworm can’t actually spread from once piece of wood to another? We have a tiled floor downstairs and the only nearby wood is the skirting boards. My question is, should I worry or am I being an idiot?
