  1. oops, sorry - that should be the ulnar artery.
  2. #have to agree- that tree has now become to large for its location, and considering the order to have maybe 1/3 removed, better total removal and start again with something more suitable and better placed.
  3. one handed top saw use, i have a scar just by the jugular on my left wrist, just above the glove line.
  4. make sure the police are on the case and pester them to take action if they are sitting on it - i had all my gear nicked, taxi driver spotted where they lived, police said yeah we know who it is, they went round a week later- DOH!
  5. huge beech in the wrong place, leaves and moss on roof and gutters, beech can drop branches - fell it.
  6. should apply to some other faiths - there are other manuals that have distasteful bits!
  7. isis yes, but not all islamists. there are crazy fundamentalist of all religious pursuation, don't tar them all with the same brush, that's the job of the media.
  8. a small end-grain bowl i just turned.
  9. depending on how well seasoned they are, i often use blank like these as the grain effect once turned is very attractive. however, there is a huge risk of radial splitting. (which can be filled with resin and returned.) if you are anywhere near wrexham, i'll take them.
  10. i have also gone through several different makes from cheap to expensive, have found anvil always better than bypass. BUT, please check out Florabest extendable anvil loppers from Lidl, at £9.99 a throwaway price but surprisingly robust, (have cut up to 11/2" diam), german quality - i bought 3 of them.
  11. allthough we have central heating to back up our woodburner, when i installed the radiators, i left our bedroom without one. the bedroom is directly above the living room and the heat from the woodburner is adequate to keep the chill out of the bedroom, to a pleasant degree. ceiling in lounge is plaster, but the bedroom has bare floor boards.
  12. massive reduction will result in massive regrowth leading to further reduction in a few years time, on a repeating cycle. much better, if the customer wants to keep thetree, is crown lift to clear the lamp, and then subsequent pruningto encourage the regrowth to persist at a higher level.
  13. girth at breast height gives a false circumference as it adds the butt of another limb, more accurate would be to get the average from above and below that limb. i would guess no more than 300yrs.
  14. once pulled a huge ash out of a river with a tirfor, and on another occasion pulled my landy out of a bog. great piece of kit.
  15. also try Dingles in Welshpool - they often have trees/shrubs that are hard to find.
  16. if you are that worried, move the house - might be a lot cheaper than taking down the trees.
  17. not exactly true - no-one is trying to solve the worlds poverty/immigration, many of the worlds poor are happy where they are as their dollar is worth much more than ours, and their community is perhaps quite stable. not all these poor people are living in war torn countries, so how about a more realistic perspective?
  18. had some fresh shaggy ink caps for tea - fried in butter with a sprinkle of black pepper - quite tasty.
  19. best autumn colour has to be Quercus coccinea, but i'd also like to see Crataegus punctata, and other members of the hawthorn family.
  20. agree with woodworks, lay it.
  21. for those kind of cuts, i use my echo top handled, but finish off with a pull saw, for those final mm's much more control.
  22. i always get Stumpbusters to do any stumpgrinding, my guy would charge £300 ish for that job.
