    `as its waterside, stem injection with Glyphosate. digging it up is risky, if you leave any roots behind it will come back. and just one example doesn't neccesarily mean it's the only one. i've been dealing with a site for 20years, most of it i've got but every so often another one sprouts somewhere else. Defra did a study that showed when buried it can reappear at least 20+ years later. any waste must be burned.

    cherry laurel grows pretty quick, can be bought at 1.5mtrs height and is reasonably priced. its possible to get leylandii at 2mtrs plus to give an instant hedge but you'll pay much more.

    +add the material cost (what you would pay if you had bought it), and the labour costs (estimated), double it and thats the minimum you should ask for.

    elm is not durable untreated outdoors, i've just used some elm as corner posts for a shed, 3 coats of wood preserver, and 3 coats of decking oil. i'll let you know if it works as soon as my shed falls over.

    also check out Echo long reach hedge trimmers, i've been using them for years - lighter and more manouverable than the stihl.

    just prop it, no need for any reduction, the tree is stable as is, but propping will offer adequate stability to preserve the trees life. props are easy to fix, 2 x 6" posts lashed together in X form.

    allthough similar in shape, service leaves are smaller, more like large hawthorn.

    r.p. is prone to Phytophthora, had a string of dead/dying robinias a few years back, about 10 in the same area (4 in one garden). keep the wounds small.

    it was difficult to get a photo of this oak that shows its immensity, that is a huge chunk of wood.

    many neglected hedgerows have dying elm.

    do you mean Robinia? gets hit by Phytophthora, dieback in the crown is an indicator, with possibly loose, dead bark and dark staining. jews ear would be coincidental, set in a old wound.
