Not south Wales but Rob Blake in Bridgwater is not a million miles away. Did my training with him a few years ago and thought he ran an excellent course, backed up by a lot of industry experience, and a good collection of knackered kit! -
I much prefer Allgear cable over Cobra, far easier to install and adjust, the Gleistein looks very similar to that, if it is AG recommend a brummel splice so suspect will be similar to that.

Husky 555fxt and their own scarlett blade, I struggled to get 555s from husky uk a few years ago, if they're still being 'interesting' to deal with you can get them easily elsewhere. Much better than the longer shaft rxt models for clearing/respacing

Avoid the port-a-wrap style lowering devices if you can, they do the job but any of the single drum bollard types, with a back plate are a big improvement. Tree runner P500 is what we use for what you describe, and it's decent. Have a look at x-ring slings and similar, that and a DMM pinto rig or two, and probably any of common 12 or 14mm ropes will be fine.

NTM mapping overlaid on an aerial photo will help you get accurate canopy outlines, but obviously not stem position.

I've pm'd you some details of my TP130 pto chipper, over your budget perhaps but I'd rather have my money in a TP than any of the other pto chippers I've seen to fit small tractors.

Import a 555fxt from sweden, (unless husky uk will sell you one, they wouldn't last time I checked) mine get used as yours, although we don't hold full revs all day. Much better in the woods with a shorter shaft and thumb throttle too. -
Agreed, mine was much improved with front wheel weights, and had belly/front and side guarding made up

I did the same as you're pondering a few years ago Matt, and have now upgraded to a larger pto based set up, so have my first pto chipper for sale if interested. TP130pto

From the angle of the bridge looks like tree is at top of a bank, assume he didn't want the logs to head down to the chipper under their own steam
