  1. Try toolstations own brand hammerite, works well on wood
  2. stockpiling 620sx's just started
  3. Poor sod, bet his blood pressure isn't in the safe zone anymore
  4. Looks handy, could anyone from Norwood say what the winch is rated at?
  5. Looks good, impressive if that is a ~50cc (or is it a 620sx?)saw in oak? Notice there is a big-ish gap between bar bolts and front of saw, could that be reduced to give a longer effective cut for a given bar length?
  6. You may be asked for a first aid ticket with a +F, and refresher training within five years for felling etc. Also your processor may fox them, hopefully they know what they're looking at.
  7. My Swann kits have been ok but not without problems, but they replaced duff cameras no quibbles. Avoid the wireless ones. Main thing is to make your own weather boxes/covers and connection covers.
  8. Awesome tree, is it on a private site?
  9. And no that video isn't the termination knot I meant, this link shows it http://caves.org/section/vertical/nh/46/doitie.html
  10. I think you mean thinner line for the friction hitch, it's all load bearing but most people use between 8 to 10mm. In your boat I'd post on here looking for a local instructor that'll do you a 1 day one on one run through on climbing, it'll all become clear very quickly, and keep you from some obvious mishaps, then get youself on the full courses if still keen.
  11. That termination is a nice compact knot and grips a karabiner well. The distel and micro pulley on a lanyard is also light and compact and allows one handed slack tending, it's a very common basic cheap set up that works well.
  12. Tie a double overhand on itself for a lanyard termination knot, and try a distel hitch with a micro pulley to adjust lanyard length.
  13. Sounds like a RAD srt set up would be worth looking at with what you have, and your caving background, other than gri gris are now frowned upon commercially, and won't like your gecko line. I started srt on 11mm caving line and a gri-gri, and other than for long free hanging ascents will likely be fine for your type of use. http://vtio.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Single-Rope-Technique-i.pdf
  14. I went from a 14ft twin flatbed to a 14ft tri plant trailer for my alpine and kit, much prefer towing the tri plant, even though worse to shunt about, and it's obviously easier to load with various machine combos, but maybe not the best for narrow Devon lanes. If I was buying again I think it'd be between Brenderup and Nugent.
  15. bahco tongs from clarkes are good
  16. I like the look of the rabaud tirmax 4t chain winch, already hydraulic, apparently consistent 4ton pull, no cable tangles. Not used one, maybe someone here has?. 280kg and the blade is detachable, might need some different redirect pulleys/rollers. Saying that my uniforest 35m does the job and for a lot less££
  17. I don't know ratings mbs etc, but I've got one and it works on heavier stuff, maybe ping grube an email https://www.grube.de/media/pdf/62/8a/9b/anl_71-879.pdf
  18. I've got a tcf one, happy with it, suspect a bit heavier than other offerings, but can't imagine I'll ever break it.
  19. Yup 360wes and an old 2700, just muffler mods, some carb work and few repairs. 2700 doesn't feel too far off the bigger saw. Excellent chipper/hedge/cutting your flail free saw!
  20. Afraid it's what Micky christened them! don't ask. The 27cc one especially is bloody good now for something so light.
  21. The modest Mr Spud strikes again, obviously not in the same league to what he'd prefer to be working on!, but these two have gone from being very average but handy little weiners to total mini rippers. Cheers Steve!
  22. I got my mini chipper from RSL near Watford, it's certainly built on a budget, does the job though, 13hp loncin engine and has paid for itself quickly on the occasional narrow access job. I think Richard got them in from Rima in China ~£1600 but that was a few years ago.
