  1. I don't mean to derail but I am I've been thinking about this after the 540 affair I think stihl/husqvarna need to give these saws that they want testing to the biggest, hairiest and rough arsed tree surgeons and get proper feed back. Non of these Nancy pansy pruner types but people that dismantle trees all the time so the saw is abused then we might get a better idea of reliability and performance. I'm not saying the OP won't do this I just get the feeling that 'yes' men test these saws and are afraid to upset stihl/husquvarna
  2. Can you not interchange the ear defenders to the msa ones? I'm happy with my petzl just asking out of curiosity I've only ever tried the protos on in gusthearts and it seemed comfy I never experienced the ear defenders other than putting them down in the shop
  3. £153 is best price I can find one for, I only looked as the ms170 on eBay second hand go for upto £140 which I find unbelievable
  4. It's not to bad when it works it's the reliability that's the issue its got a professional engine in a homeowners case
  5. Please be honest as you can with the review, I was thinking of chopping my husky 540 in for a 201 next week but if these have just come out I might wait. I went off lots of positive reviews for the husky 540 and it's been the biggest let down
  6. That information comes from the leaflets you get with your brand new stove, only burn kiln dried hardwood as its 100% sustainable and its carbon neutral bla bla bla bullsh*t bullsh*t bullsh*t......... annoying
  7. This has got to be a wind up. It's unbelievable what I'm reading
  8. Some boy
  9. It's harsh to dock his wages mate, if you're employing a numpty no offence to the lad you're going to get things like this happening, you are more to blame than him, it's your climbing kit always put it away yourself its your responsibility.
  10. Keep it simple mate don't danage anything and you'll be fine, if anything is damaged or discoloured take pictures before hand. If the job is going to be that much of a ball ache is it even worth doing?
  11. In the 60's men were shorter than they were now so the need to update so people can actually fit into them now without being some kind of contortion artist:laugh1:
  12. I might know someone how has one for sale, home made job but it's decent enough just needs a power pack or what you've got to run it off
  13. I've just had a stove installed I insusted in a flue liner just for ease of cleaning and the fact I wasn't to sure about the condition of my chimney. If it he chimney leaking I don't see the need to get a liner installed. With the no make stove being over 20 years old it might be worth replacing it for a more efficent one could save money in the long run but saying that if your mother is happy with how it performs keep it, and I can't see why the installer can't instal a liner without the stoves paper work unless it's some daft hetas regulation
  14. Spot on. That way is faster and your less likely to damage the winch cable. Throw line up pull rope through and just timber hitch it to the bottom the use a double bow line to attach the cable it'll take you under 5 mins to do that. Hopefully that makes sense. If your winch is good and trees arent massive I just put the cable on at head height
  15. My 550 gets abused and it's never let me down yet it's a 2013 model if that makes any difference
  16. Some farmers make loads of money others make no money that's business you're not going to get a rich farmer on a tree forum bragging how much he's making but you'll get the poor ones telling us how farmers aren't making money. That just the way it is. Most farmers i see on the roads are in new tractors I've been seeing a lot of fendts on the road lately. Any how I couldn't care less if people make more money or less money than me even if they have government subsidies I don't care. If I wasn't making money doing tree work I'd change my occupation and every year I still see sheep, cows and what ever is grown in fields I'm sure farmers don't just do it for a laugh their making money or the have a bad business plan
  17. New Holland is basically fiat and if you've ever jumped into a new Holland it looks strangely like a fiat Punto inside. All I know is lambo still make tractors because being a cruel dad I told the little one I could afford a lambo he was rather excited then proceeded to show him a picture of a 2001 lambo tractor but in my search they're still making them 2014 models were for sale
  18. In my private and commercial days did a job for lady Robson obviously not as famous as her late husband Bobby but she was a pleasure to work for teas coffees etc, as a massive Newcastle fan she showed me the trophy room which was impressive but not as impressive as the house though
  19. Wilkinson sell firebricks of all shapes and sizes, cheap too. Just saves messing about with fire cement. I've got a little wenlock you need to remove the fire bricks to remove the baffle
  20. In the exhaust
  21. That's correct but some dealers deny this kit exists and others (gustharts) will sell you it for a decent price around £70 ish
  22. May street?!? You're getting paid to much you posh git
  23. My saw goes to the dealers when something's wrong which is approximately 2-3 weeks When I get it back its ether got stacks of power or in my case at the moment it's weak as piss, it's due to go back with a bent av spring so hopefull it'll return more powerful or I'll demand my money back and stage a protest that the saw isn't fit for professional use
  24. I regret buying my 540 terrible saw poor build quality
  25. CJM

I looked at getting one but reliability put me off then I looked at getting a Volvo XC90 but decided I wasn't old enough so stuck with the pinin
