  1. There is a circlip on shaft that has dropped off
  2. Usually very few people know exactly where a product has come from. Many reputable companies, many in the garden machinery sector use Chinese production, but as long as the specification is made , then it helps keep costs down. If Rob specs a good quality product then there is no reason why the Chinese cannot make it. If he just asks for a roll of chain then it may be made of plasticine. After all most of us use Apple products and guess where a lot of them are made!
  3. If the engine sounds okay and the transmission is crisp and climbs hills okay, then there is little to go wrong with the tractor. The cutter deck could well be rotten so this needs careful inspection, remove all lying lumps of grass
  4. I think on a lorry due to bounce in rear end, the hitch needs to be sprung to prevent bolts shearing
  5. Just a little reminder that certainly in Wales and probably across the UK there will be a re evaluation of Business rates from April 2017. All business rate payers need to check their new value on the valuation office website , easily found by putting business rates into Google. Our shop has increased by 50% but others have increased by 250%. It seems retail are hardest hit. So safest thing is check and object ASAP if needed
  6. Your local stihl dealer should be able to help, 70p plus vat each set of 3 required
  7. We sell Stihl new for domestic use but for commercial use, we sell Demon washers, made in Plymouth. They are very well made and simple but a good petrol one about £900 plus vat new
  8. Jack up tip of A frame, hitch end and unwind until it separates. Straighten or replace and refit
  9. What about your local Stihl dealer? £1.39 plus vat retail for the black lock knob
  10. Take it back to dealer for a factory reset. Brain on these can be upset by excessivley long cord, ie guard is removed
  11. Sounds like a partially blocked carb jet, not having enough fuel to rev properly
  12. Check flywheel key isnt broken, thats the only way to move timing
  13. Technically I dont suppose they should but they certainly do it, and its been going on for years. Customer only has to imply a fault and then returns it. I wouldnt mind betting that the 14 days will be extended to 30 days
  14. There is another side to internet selling called the Distance Selling Regulations. As many will know the customer can order a saw or indeed any other product and has a legal right to return this product without giving a reason within 14 days of receiving it. In many cases the item has done the job required and now is no longer needed. The retailer has to accept this item back and usually returns it to the manufacterer. The manufacterer is now left with a large quantity of unused, box damaged, used or abused products which he has to dispose of at a knockdown price. he has to factor this loss in when he sets the price for supplying the retailer with new stock so in the end the price goes up to the consumer regardless whether he buys online or face to face. We handle several lorry loads a year of returns from a major brand that is sold through a national mail order outlet, I see the bad side of mail order selling where buyers take the p**s, the losses for that manufacterer must be very hard to stomach. Selling online is far cheaper than a traditional shop but the usual way for a online sellers to attract sales is to cut prices rather than offer a good shop front with quality service. The way forward for the smaller dealer is offer a good stock of product at a sensible discount with the knowledge that the customer will get premium service if something should go wrong. We sell a decent quantity of Stihl machines per year, we charge more than many online sellers but we are not miles out on price, most users accept this and are happy, we rarely lose a sale to a local customer Stihls online sales policy has been modified in recent times to allow the distance selling of certain classes of goods others have to be collected, in my opinion thats quite fair as it leads to a good network of dealers not just a few mail order sellers at each others throats all trying to be the cheapest Final thought, what if Amazon started to offer tree surgery work? What would the average local tree surgeon say if he went to see a job , quoted for it and was told the Amazon contractor will do it 20% cheaper but will you price match please. I am sure the answer would be "get stuffed"
  15. Sorry to be negative but I very much doubt its German made for £120. Usual thing is to have some reference to Germany on the packaging or "technology of Germany" written somewhere. Its going to be Chinese look for PRC
  16. I will try and look through our stockpile for a 357XPG, there might be one buried in a corner....
  17. Thank you for your kindly words!! We have just listed a 560XPG from usual source. Later version of 357XPG and goes like stink! Either PM me or look on the Bay if interested
  18. We would just sell the customer a new complete hedgetrimmer head for about £230 inc. Work on the principle that if one gear in that head is worn, then the others are the same age and also the blades cams etc. If the housing around the shaft is not cracked then that has some salvage value so offer the old one on Ebay and get £40-50 back, someone will buy it
  19. 100% SCAM If you accept Paypal then you must deliver to Paypal stated address using a tracked carrier The scam is "buyer" receives bike , starts a claim with Paypal stating item not received , you have given bike to 3rd party carrier and are up S**t creek with no paddle, no Paypal seller protection here Accept cash paid into your account or bank transfer only. Tell buyer he can make transfer whilst carrier is waiting to load bike. Guarantee thats the last you hear of him.
  20. Best idea, take saw to a motor bike repair centre, they all seem to do helicoils
  21. In all fairness the chinese ones off Ebay at £11.99 work really well
  22. Replace the carb pump diaphram and gasket, its probably stretched and not pumping properly
  23. Exactly that, no feedback, sell to who you like, buyer collects , so no distance selling regulations and Ebay cannot interfere if buyer trumps up some ridiculous problem. Just get 25% deposit of buyer but refund deposit when buyer arrives and take full amount in cash, no fear of any trouble then. If buyer refuses to give deposit , he is a waster and move on
  24. Meetens in Preston could be best bet for a coil
