  1. Renting a bit of space to a tree surgeon just for security of his truck and kit is one thing , allowing the place to become a chip dump, burn site and firewood processing yard is another. I am just about to divide a bit of space out the front into four small units for tree surgeons and there are enough takers. That will be a 20`shipping container with a 15`gap and gates on the front, no chip, logs or firewood. Bob
  2. Its all down to complaints, if the traffic movements, noise and mess become a nuisance factor the local councils will receive complaints , then its game over. Keep it low profile and run uninterrupted for 10 years and a lawful use cert can be applied for. Other than that shove in an application, if there are no objections it will sail through on the 28 day notice. Bob
  3. They have made hard work of these tests, if you look at my license you will see that the car and bike test were the same day, I passed the car test and sat in the waiting room for two minutes and the same tester came back in the room and called out my name for the bike test. No highway code questions because I had just done them in the car , just a few laps of the streets around the depot and that was that, 2 hours max.The HGV1 was the same, an hour or so driving and a few highway code questions. 7. They dont like small stumps either
  8. 12/24volt ? bob
  9. If its a domestic drive with services running under it I would go for block paving. If at anytime you need to dig it up the paving is easy to reinstate. Bob
  10. Proper work truck for an owner driver, not one to loose the lads in though . Bob
  11. If you are hungry and need to go online Jon look out for an internet cafe:thumbup: Bob
  12. Some posts are written with the stuff straight from the tin Bob
  13. I am still looking for a machine driver ( 360) to work alongside our landscape team, tickets not essential but experience is.. Mainly within 30mile rad of Guildford Surrey. All other posts taken , thanks Arbtalk. Bob
  14. Even the wooden ones are a bit lumpy. We just had an artic load of the concrete ones on a job, 100 of them is 30 ton:thumbdown:
  15. Buy any aggregates by the ton in the winter from a waterlogged quarry if you want to see a "legit" variation in volume. Bob
  16. Most self employed here could add machine driver, cutter, truck driver, mechanic, social worker, shrink ,doctor, money lender, financial adviser, diplomat, accountant, office worker, estimator ,surveyor and fool to their list of qualifications. Bob
  17. I will have to bow down here at this point Tom because I have never been involved with cubic meter bags of logs. I just have this vision that the big logs wont go into a bag as easily as the smaller logs unless you are really trying hard to organise the contents. Pallet stacking for sure would be heavier with the big logs. Please dont use the word logic anywhere near my name again Bob
  18. I dont think we are arguing about the same thing here. Obviously a cubic meter of timber is going to be app a ton and busting it down is only going to increase the volume. My argument is if you were just tossing big lumps of logs in a cubic meter bag it will not load without massive airgaps. The smaller logs will settle down in the same space with less overall wasted space. If we are laying them down carefully on a pallet in an organised manner the bigger logs will be heavier. When the lads load chogs in the bin like this with the telehandler they get a fraction of the weight in there that can be achieved by hand stacking smaller stuff. Bob
  19. :lol::lol:
  20. You guys should be bagging it up and selling it to the meat smokers @£10 a kilo 1kg Oak Dust Shavings kiln dired wood timber burning smoking smoker bbq saw dust | eBay Bob
  21. I am not sure volume works for logs, if the said cubic meter bags were full of smaller logs there would be considerably more in there weight wise than if they were bigger logs.Customer satisfaction is probably more important here , all the time they feel like they are getting a good deal you retain their loyalty. This is bit like the farmers selling hay, physically same size bales can vary in weight by a huge margin as can the quality. Bob
  22. When it gets down to seriously aggressive tyres I think they need to go on a spare set of rims and only fit them to the truck when on that kind of work. After an AT or MT tyre they really are a royal pain on the road, The Insa is a nightmare to balance, being a heavy carcass remould they dont really stand a chance on the road, those Maxicross tyres were good but you would not put them on a road smoker either. Bob If you have had it off on the lotto you can always give Colossus a call , they will make you anything you want http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=185886&stc=1&d=1436564126
  23. Spot on, when I advertise for 360 machine drivers I always make it clear whether its for forestry ops or landscape. Two very different jobs and skills. Bob
  24. If you cant be bothered to visit site to quote the job go on street view with google maps, its is a good way to see what you are getting into with the trees if they are at the front of the property and again on maps for the ones in the rear. You also get a chance to clock the pigs breakfast of a place for access and parking. Bob
