  1. Brilliant idea, much easier if you are on your own ( men in sheds:thumbup1:) Bob
  2. I was having a chat a while ago with a friend that is into his domestic arb work, he had noticed that a lot of his old regulars had gone off the radar and this was a concern to him . What he has done is get his customer database and bomb them all with regular posted offers of bagged logs, mulch, chip , new services offered and various special offers even if he knows they dont want it . It apparently has stirred up a lot of new interested. Bob
  3. Possible remains of a timber trailer. Found deep in the woods , turntable is still in one piece , hubs are there. If anyone is restoring something like this and needs any bits off it let me know. Bob
  4. Watch you back , Don "the log" Cazzo may send the boys round and put a decapitated Sooty between your sheets. Bob
  5. There may be a lot of trucks and chippers floating about but they dont affect anything we do There is a dire shortage of reliable skilled ticketed climbers, cutters and forestry machine drivers in these parts. This has a lot to do with it and keeps a lot of arb guys busy with roadside work . http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/englandsmostwoodedregioninventory.pdf/$FILE/englandsmostwoodedregioninventory.pdf Bob
  6. You obviously see some value in the deal or you would have dismissed it. I would go for it on the understanding that he accepts two hundred and fifty quid a week for two years, first year paying him for the kit and the second year for the good will. Shove in a proviso that states he gets no second year payments if the phone does not ring off the hook, worst case scenario is you have bought some kit on interest free credit. Bob edit: A mate of mine bought a ready to go up and running are business for 60k and had to carry that monkey on his back for five years, he regrets it.
  7. I think a high cube tipping trailer is a great idea and a worthy addition even if you do get a transit at a later date. The trailer ( license permitting ) behind a 4x4 will have a larger legal carrying capacity than a transit. Bob
  8. Diesel and twostroke returned after a four hours of AWOL , looking chuffed with themselves .
  9. A few more sticks ready to go. A few shots of some Laurel, Birch and Rhody mulching. Six more months of this, some of its is over 30` tall:thumbdown: Now the light has hit the floor regen is popping up everywhere, pity the sprayers:lol: Some dossers on an extended tea break
  10. One of our lads is in sunny Spain and sent through a piccy of a guy sat on the roof of his car as it floated past the hotel and off down the road Bob
  11. I think this is a problem, there needs to be a clear distinction between a genuine refugee and what to all intents and purpose is a migrant worker. Nobody would deny a genuine refugee shelter with the view to repatriate them at a later date if circumstances were to change for the better. Bob
  12. What a gem. Ex 3ta,5ta,White Saint, T120, T120r. Bob
  13. Looks like the Manitou has pushed up a bit more than just the wood Mick Bob
  14. Its been on the cards for a while. Bob
  15. Its a dynashift so it can split each of the eight gears by four so really low Bob

    Spanners

I dont think you can rely on these ratchet spanners because they are so much thicker around the hex end and wont fit on the head of a bolt that is in a tight spot.. Time again I have started to use them but always seem to end up with an ordinary spanner to finish the job. That said they are a handy addition. The britool , snapon and flexi head ones have been trouble free but the draper expert one on the right is the only one left out of the set and that has a broken lever. You get what you pay for. Bob
  17. Transits can be jump started but not from the battery, there is a post under the bonnet to do this from, its under a red plastic cap. You are right about pump damage if you do it from the battery, this has happened to us but I dont have a clue why. We have a set of surge arresters we use when welding up plant , I would imagine they would protect the electronics of a modern motor if you were junp starting . Sealey Auto Electronics Protection Device 12V : Tooled-Up.com Bob
  18. Thats the gear I used on one of the transits greedy boards , I glued it to 12mm ply. Backed up on ply its really tough and knock resistant .
  19. Just over , good guess Jonny. By the time its had new clutch control seal pack, oil, filters etc its probably going to be about 2.5K. Bob
  20. Massey clutch decided to let go, its a hydraulically pressure loaded unit. It means splitting the tractor which also meant dropping the inch thick steel belly plates and guarding = kin heavy  The clutch lives in here and not on the engine The drive damper springs had lost their newness so had some new ones fitted. Broken up seals and plate material through the whole casing ( great ) All cleaned up and ready to go back together tomorrow .
  21. Our old machine driver who unfortunately passed away recently was a stickler for greasing up his machine, a box of thirty 36 would last a month in the yard and at least thirty of those would be used by Brian. I was having a sort out and checking the shelves when I noticed that the last box I purchased six months ago still has 10 in there. Thats bad enough but we have two extra machines out there at the moment Does anybody care or bother now? Bob
  22. MS171 in the cab of the truck for trimming up the trailer and a 357xp for slashing and bashing. Bob
  23. Truth is there is a massive pile of it which is not going to be weighed because the guy is doing his own transport, it needs to be gone because of other work going on , its a conservatively estimated job lot so probably nearer the £35/40 a ton mark. Bob
