    What would you guys consider to be a fair amount over and above your normal working wage for staying away. On the assumption there is no traveling expenses or B+B as these would already be taken care of. You only have to take care of your own food. Bob

    I would imagine removing the barrier would open an H&S can of worms as would trying to use ramps,skids etc roadside. We have always used a hijab on any kit that needs to go the other side of the barrier. There is normally Tm about on these jobs and the sneaky feckers love to report back anything untoward. Bob

    Chip disposal in Surrey is a major problem since Slough changed their incinerators to burn household waste instead of chip. They were the only user locally of arb chip that made logistical and economical sense. Since then its been a downward spiral and anywhere that could take chip is stacked out with the stuff. Logistics is the problem. Bob

    I just read through this thread, I cant believe all the rules and regs over something that was not ever even considered necessary a few years ago. I have a log burner in the single story section of the building and all I did with that is stand a lump of HD steel pipe on top of it and go straight through the roof. Its still as good as the day I installed it fifteen + years ago. A friend of mine has one on a register plate and no liner ,that also has been in for yonks with no issues . Bob

    Hodge is right of course which is why I feel its best to have a sharpener, when you can do your own you tend to give them a quick sharpen but often so you never run on dull blades. You also get longer service life from a set by doing this.You can also sharpen a set and have them back on a machine quicker than running them down the road no matter how close the guy is, as for the free post I would imagine the cost is tacked on somewhere.     This is worth a punt Viceroy, blade and chisel sharpener. | eBay Its single phase and already has some tooling that will adapt to hold blades, its also got an auxiliary stone on the side that could be changed to do the hollow ground blades. Bob

    A friend of mine kicked off with about 10K about fifteen years ago ,his shares have peaked at £130k and troughed at below £80k, I think he is back up at over the £100k again but the hits do hurt. It works for him because its a bit of sport at lunchtime in the office and he has friends that steer him in the right direction ( most of the time) Bob

    I could drop our trailer down there but you would have to chip first then throw on the logs, I cant get rid of a mixed load. Bob

    That old clunker of ours will do flat or hollow ground, the grinding head turns on the king post and the water is pumped onto the stone. Its fully automatic and can do six blades at a time in under five minutes. Its more than paid for itself and even earns a few quid doing other contractors blades. Bob

    I bought some cd`s off ebay that cover the workshop manuals and spare parts for all the saws,strimmers,hedge cutters and blowers . The set of 4 were about £10, I have printed off ,laminated and put a set for each relevant model into a seperate folder to make them workshop proof. Its saved a fortune in time and wrongly ordered spares. I just phone through the numbers now:thumbup1: Bob

    Some of you guys are getting good deals on small quantities, we chew our way through between 4 to 6,000 thousand ltrs a month and dont get it that cheap. I think I need to get shopping about again Bob

    I cant see that being right, if there is enough hydraulic flow/pressure for two tracking motors there must be enough for a hydraulic winch. You just need to sort out a diverter , electric is ok but you would need to up the size and capacity of the battery. If its occasional use electric is simple and a quick cheap installation, if you intend to spend a lot of time winching things go hydraulic. Just my worthless humble opinion. Bob

    I bought one the other day becuase the music in my head told me too , I dont see what all the fuss and hype is about. I cant see any benefits to it over a £10 cheapy other than you can keep a few bits in the box. You cant see at a glance whats in the thing and I dont suppose it will last any longer when it gets run over or mulched. I had a good look at the spout re jamming, I can only think crud is getting in the slider part of it. I tried to pull the spout apart but it felt like it was going to break . Bob
