  1. Forestry flat out, landscape flat out, domestic arb busyish, other things flat out. Not enough skilled , versatile, adaptable workers to go round. Bob
  2. I had an in depth chat with her indoors on the subject of shavings which is a bit like patting a croc on the head while taking food from its mouth. They dont want sawdust or splintery bits of wood they want proper shavings. Sawdust for horse bedding apparently takes up too much time when skipping out and some of it is dusty which again they dont want. I suppose to just have a shaving machine like the Tonka is fine for us for our own bedding but as a business you would have to consider a bagging/weighing system as well. When and if Tonka answer their phone I will get a price. Bob
  3. That looks like its a no brainer, she gets through 4 pallets a month so a machine like that would actually pay for itself in less than a year:thumbup1:I just need to start stacking and drying some small diameter timber. Collecting from a sawmill is ok but not for the amount she gets through. Has anyone here used one of these Tonka machines? Bob
  4. Had to collect some bedding for STMBO`s kin horses . £6.75p a pack and 48 of them on a pallet @ 18kg per pack = £324 a pallet So we have £648 for 1,728 kg`s of sawdust/shavings . I think we are all in the wrong game. Bob

    Home brew!

The dishwasher does a fab job of cleaning the empties. I have found you need to get them out of there when they are red hot and stand them upright to stop condensation forming. A few ready to be guzzled:biggrin:
  6. We have used these plastic adaptors but they tend to leak around the threads . It may pay to silicone all the joints. IBC Adapter Fitting TO 1" 25mm Hose Tail Connector Tank Yute 2" S60 60mm | eBay
  7. I am not sure of the interchangeability of parts between the dodge version and the RB44`s. The ones I have all say Reynolds Boughton on the V5`s so they are not conversions. One thing that springs to mind swapping the axle is making sure it has the same diff ratio as your front axle, the last thing you want is that lot winding up when you select 4WD. Other than that how are you going to get the handbrake to release? the air brake axle needs air to get it to release. Also may be worth getting the train weight uprated at the same time, the 7.5 tonners can legally tow a 3.5 ton trailer. Are you AG registering it? I will be breaking one of them so let me know if you need any bits. Bob
  8. Daylight and algae come to mind, better off buried . Bob
  9. The series should be buried along with the trio, its followers can watch the reruns for an eternity on Dave ( me) That way the new show which should not be called top gear can be run and judged on its own performance without comparison. I think Evans could bring something to the show. Bob
  10. Brilliant piece of kit. We are cutting a swage through this woodland at the moment , its only about 50mts wide and it runs for about half a mile. The client does not want the place churned up or the fragile tarmac road damaged , I cant put our kit in there because it will trash the place. The wood needs to end up roadside which is about a mile away. One of these mini forwarders would be ideal. There is nothing big in there, I think the biggest is only about 600mm diameter and it will all be in 3mtr lengths, possibly 3or4 artic loads Anyone in Surrey with this set up? There are no time constraints so it can stay there for a while but I would like to get it cleared.
  11. Your right Shane, one should never mix drink and drugs Bob
  12. Cold tea As for the rest of you heathens that drink cold tomato soup and yoghourt I would sooner wring out my socks and drink that Bob
  13. Jim the 7.5 tonners have air over hydraulics for brakes and are fitted with a spring brake (air) for secondary braking + air couplings for the trailers. Uprating is straightforward as long as the braking efficiency target can be met, its measured as function of plated weight so as soon as you are done run it down to a commercial brake tester and get a reading. It needs to be well in and not marginal or it will cause problems. I will be doing the same thing to the one below but will rob all the bits off one of the festering 7.5 tonners , I was thinking of a fifth wheel coupling and making this into a mini artic with a small crane behind the cab. Bob
  14. I cant moan about the cherry picker, it was built from scratch over ten years ago by our apprentice fitter who was 17 at the time as a project. Other than normal services and a re pipe for a loler its had absolutely nothing done to it. I suppose the pump is nothing compared to the damage done to my mates customers lawn thats just had 30+ gallons of Rye oils finest 32 hydraulic dumped on it. Bob
  15. Pump fail on the Landy cherry picker. lent the picker to a mate who is well versed on its use, he left it with an oppo who was not and he pulled the winch divert lever while it was running, this caused a dead circuit which split the pump in two. 6 port divert valve ( no pressure relief on this type) One fubar pump:thumbdown: Dischuffed Bob
  16. Times have changed Big J, cranes like that from yesteryear would have probably left the trailer with a very small payload. This modern crop of lightweight`s not only weigh a fraction of the old ones they pick up twice as much. Nice looking rig Bob
  17. In my boots at around two o`clock yesterday while stuck in traffic on the M25 would have beaten said unconfirmed temps reached in Mrs Eggs undercrackers Bob
  18. Kinottnsticky here Bob
  19. I need somewhere near Chalfont St peters that can take two or three transit loads of chip. Suggestions please Thanks Bob
  20. Your getting confused with the single rear wheel army trucks, This one is a twin rear wheel 11.5 ton civvy lorry. It can also have a 5 ton trailer behind it. The same applies to the rb44`s, the army ones are 3.5ton gross and the civvy twin rear wheel ones are a 7.5 ton gross. Bob
  21. On this theme dont forget one of these gadgets http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/50917-my-grinder-ate-gas-pipe-9.html Bob
  22. +1 I can understand the OP`s concerns re having one truck tied up just for this but there is nothing to stop you making something multipurpose. I am just about to lift the bowser body off the MK Bedford and make it a bit more than just a bowser. With the various bodys on twist locks it will end up in daily use. Started to unbolt the tank. And will be transplanting this tipper body, hiab and frame off a beaten up old cargo onto the MK chassis , then have the frame on the chassis held down with twist locks. The Hiab can then load whichever body is needed onto the twistlocks. The tipper sides slide off and I am going to weld in sockets for timber bolsters. Thats the theory anyway so it should end up a decent little ten ton 4x4 Bowser, tipper and timber truck run about. Three of these down each side
  23. I think we must be showing our age Stubby  For the uneducated [ame] [/ame]
  24. We will all be in these trucks soon, the Jap stuff gets bigger with every model change. Park a new ranger next to an old one Bob
