  1. I dont see whats wrong with the idea, A landy just towing a chipper is going to have to poke up with going away with one ton max on board. If a PTO chipper is mounted on the back and all the useful left over space utilised for tool storage it can with a pull out drawbar legally chip 2.5 ton into a tipping trailer. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=182396&stc=1&d=1431975372http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=182397&stc=1&d=1431975372
  2. A climber and two lads on the floor for the morning, Chip as little as possible, stack timber to one side of the drive, breeze by in the afternoon and lower the stick to the floor with the Hiab, load up sticks and leave a guy there for the afternoon having a tidy up. Fassand Pand , any more your quote will be laughed at around here unless your the only one looking at it. Bob If there is no rot through the middle of that stick it would go on the mill, other than that its on the firewood pile , its money either way.

  9. Had to fell these two today. One Sycamore leaning back over a road and towards the railway also growing out of a really steep bank , also among the phone and overhead lines, also raining and blowing a hoolie , Great . The other a 100 foot Poplar with lean back and the wind in it next to a power line. No room for error so winched them over. In this winch we trust
  10. Import duty is applied to the Mill and all the associated costs getting it here. They look at the total invoice from the shipping company. It normally works out a £ to the $ for things shipped over from the states. So an item for $20k will end up roughly £20k by the time its at your door. If its not going to fill a container speak to a freight consolidator who will jockey your bits in a shared container, that will be a big saving. Bob
  11. A bit like this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=182075&stc=1&d=1431555036 To avoid this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=182076&stc=1&d=1431555126

  15. Working on a lake is more the reason to hire in a bunded bowser for the jobs duration. I doubt if your customer would appreciate even the smallest of spills near a lake.Play it safe. Bob
  16. Many of these Fords, Chevs and dodge trucks have cracked the million mile mark. They really are the nuts. https://social.ford.com/our-articles/trucks/f-350%20super%20duty/passing-the-million-mile-mark/ Couple Put 1.2 Million Miles On Family Truck In 7 Years Bob

  18. The last set of tyres we had on our Hilux are too taller profile and have messed with the overall gearing. It was never a racing car before but this has really dulled it off. Its worth noting the od of the originals and stick with it. Bob
  19. Alas poor Yorick I knew him well Bob
  20. A friend of mine has something similar bolted down in the cab of his truck. 12 Volt One Cup Car / Van Coffee Maker - BestAutoBits.com Store Bob
  21. I am assuming the road going past the field entrance is not that wide. If one of these trucks get stuck the tom toms will beat and you wont see another timber lorry near the place. If a truck can drive in then it will be able to reverse in so pull out the gates and posts , trim back the vegetation around the entrance so they dont tear off their mirrors and chuck down a few loads of crushed concrete for them to back onto. If the entrance is made wide enough you will be able to stack both sides of the track, a hard standing 80` long and 15 feet wide should be enough. Dont forget to inform the council and highways because they get nervous when they see activity like this in the green belt. Bob
  22. As the premium for arb insurance is based on turnover and the number of employees would it not pay to have just a professional indemnity insurance running for the consultancy and a separate one for the arb work? Bob
  23. If protection of the light is important sink a hamburger into a piece of steel tube with a simple removable grid cover on top. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=181788&stc=1&d=1431077554 Used this on trailers etc for a while and never lost a lamp unit or lens.
  24. You lot are all singing off the same Hymn sheet. The guy with these trees had quotes of between £2k and £4k, we did it for £2000 inc the vodka and tonic. All our kit was on a clearance job next door, the lot was felled into his drive, then grabbed with the telehandler and dumped next to the timber trailer roadside. I crunched them up whole with the grab and stuffed them into the trailer, the boys gave the trailer a quick trim and we were gone all in a couple of hours. GDC had way too much leaf in their chip at the time and were desperate for wood so that was a free tip on the way home and some browny points for later favours. Without the kit being there already it would not been worth doing, I heard through the grapevine later that we were being accused of undercutting but if thats not charging enough for your time what is. As a tree surgery job it may have taken a two man team a week so where does the 4K come from? Bob
  25. Only a bit of fun Kev . The customer had quotes that varied by such a large margin I am curious to know how you all see it. Now take another swig of that rum and price it. Bob
