  1. I just buy it in or bung a couple of 1000 ltr stillages on the truck and go to the cheapest local garage. £1.17p a litre was the last lot I bought, 99% of the time a truck thats filled at the yard can do a round trip on a tank. The upside is you dont have a cab full of blokes wasting time fuelling up or taking the card or cash and losing the receipts. There are also not many garages around here that you can get a lorry into. and tip it straight into the bunded tank Bob
  2. This is something that runs alongside of other things we do. We have found that being involved with grounds maintenance has led onto other things, once in you will be the first port of call for all the associated work like fencing, landscape and even gritting. We have 3 or 4 guys flat out on this type of work all year and most weekends in the summer. There is also no shortage of skilled gardener types that are up for part time work which again can relieve the workload. We have one old boy that looks after a massive car sales site for us , we only ever see his invoice because he is self contained and just gets on with it. There is certainly no harm in giving it a try , nothing ventured nothing gained . Best of luck . Bob
  3. Dewalt 18v here as well , great tools but battery life is rubbish. The torch though lasts for months on one charge
  4. A friend of mine is after a deck saw for his yard. Along the lines of this L-M Equipment Co. Ltd. Deck Saw | eBay Anyone?? Before he has me build him one Bob
  5. I reckon thats based on a Commer cab. Like it Bob http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=186674&stc=1&d=1437924211

    Morals

Which is true. What we " people" also fail to do is spot the early tell tale signs of a person about to fall into the abyss of addiction. A bit more support and recognition from close friends and family would go a long way. Stable door and all that. Bob
  7. Land and property or at the very least invest in yourself. Think past doing the manual work and further your education so you dont have to later in life. Bob
  8. The house on the hill used to enjoy the view of the valley and lakes which are part of its estate. The pine has taken over blocking the views and depriving some very nice trees of light. So we are opening up the vista, it goes for miles and when we get to the bottom we have to clear lake as well. You will get to see SS Aspen the barge in action
  9. Weathers fantastic here is Surrey if you are a wading bird:thumbdown: Bob
  10. Making a hole in the woods Bob
  11. I like the Grab Mick, what make is it? Bob
  12. A mate of mine has a place off the beaten track and is too tight to cough up 46k for mains electric. He has calor gas fridge and cooker, 12volt electric lights and TV running off solar charged batteries. He has an old clunker of a genny if he needs to use his workshop or any proper power, I dont see it being a problem for him. Bob
  13. As you say there are better ways of doing these jobs but ours is not the reason why unfortunately. When they spec top and collect thats what they want, they dont want tons of ag equipment romping around over their precious wild flower area`s. The guy that drove the tractor and amazon for us suggested a forage harvester and blow it straight into a silage trailer but that was rejected. Anyway I was down the other yard this morning and the old amazon is festering in the corner of the yard edging its way nearer death valley:) There were quite a lot of mods done to it for this high cut, all the wheels had to be made in steel because we could not keep tyres on it no matter what we did and all the adjusters had to be jacked up for the high cut and braced. We had five years of this and not used much since so if you want to try/buy/rent it just ask. Edit, initially we were dumping the cuttings on their compost heap but it got so full that they were paying us to run it to the local council tip on their account, I cant even begin to imagine what they were charged for that. Bob
  14. We have one of those Amazon 2.5meter cut top and collect mowers, we used it on a council contract for a high cut on wild flower area`s , its the sort that hangs off the back of the tractor. They only hold a few cubic meters of grass cuttings and then you have to stop and empty the thing ( about five minutes cutting) the up side is they will high tip into the back of a tipper lorry. Very time consuming compared to normal topping and if the grass is wet forget it, you will spend more time unblocking it than working. I reckon it takes six times longer than normal for top and collect, then you have the cuttings to dispose of Bob
  15. Air monitoring gizmo ?? Bob
  16. You are all wrong. I have checked with aspenarbs chief nutritionist and he assures me that after extensive research into the contents of the yards dustbin the staple diet for arborists is as follows. Costa coffee, Redbull, Mcdonalds, Coke (liquid during the week) , Lucozade, Walkers crisps, chicken nuggets, garage sandwiches, ice cream, Kentucky fried chicken , Burger king, fish and chips ,Twix, kitkat, bottled water and cigarettes . Proof I prefer this http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=186603&stc=1&d=1437682870
  17. Were you hurt in this terrible accident Jon:confused1: Bob:)
  18. If you are taking on teenagers you become the father figure , you are probably the biggest influence in their lives at that stage. It will be you they look up to,listen to and respect. They are our children at the end of the day so good or bad we should be giving them a chance. I am pleased with the way the few we have had have turned out and its a pleasure to see them progress. One young lad I took on at 16 is on his now employing four lads, he has just bought his second house as an investment and is doing very well for himself, not bad for a 26 year old. I am quietly proud of that one We have had the odd one that was disinterested and a waste of time but thats more to do with them being uncertain of their career path. Bob
  19. About right there Goaty. I would like to see the education authorities promote the early release and support of the kids that are not academically gifted so they can get a head start in a trade/skill while getting acclimatised to work ethics . It would lessen the burden on the schools and probably relieve a classroom of some disruptive children. Bob
  20. The only real value will be its tangible assets like the yard and kit, the intangible in this day and age are worth virtually nothing. Bob
  21. Yep:001_smile: his neck is a bit shorter now but it needed winding in anyway:laugh1: Bob
  22. No vibration on the Road King but as I mentioned its heavy and slow. That said if you get down to 25mph in top and crank it open its quite happy to wrench my arms out of their sockets. Masses of torque and a very lazy ride, it still has less than a thousand miles on it from new But thats going to change now My two lads on their dirt bikes ( kin nutters) Bob
  23. I have got a Harley Road King, they dont go, dont stop and dont handle very well. They are also very heavy but take them on a long journey and they really are a comfy bike. My nephew Teo spanking his bike round Cadwell Pk http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=186405&stc=1&d=1437328181
  24. Just make sure you die potless and owe loads of money Stubby , perhaps father a few illegitimate children or both . No one will forget you for a very long time Bob
