  1. Still lit 24/7…… got a huge pile of conies to burn off ;-))
  2. off with the annoying little buggers.., if they don't get you ascending they will get you on decent…… there is always one….. if its a monday…. well the 880 is always at hand:BoomSmilie_anim:
  3. Get some aircraft wire crimped up with loops on the ends run it through any gear and snap on a lock, might be a pain in the butt, but deters opportunists … as for brooms rakes ect can't keep em…….. same with wheel barrows….. grrrrr
  4. Drives me nuts!I do Shredding for a few landscapers, exorbitant hourly rate, plus part there of,they know i will charge double if it is not stacked properly, and know what i won't shred, when i get asked by new customers i tell them it would be cheaper to get me to do the whole job, so next time i get it… usually… One guy gave stick about the prices, i showed hims video of my biannual strip down and re build of machine gave him running costs per hour tax insurance, wages, never had a peep out of him after that, pays upon the nose now!
  5. signed….. bane of my life, feckers always spread out across the width of the byway…. won't bunch up to let you pass and never salute…..
  6. http://www.teagasc.ie/forestry/docs/advice/HurleyAsh_TodaysFarmMayJun2011.pdf ASh for hurley's has been contentious topic here in recent times most notably Cameras in woods detect thief stealing ash for hurleys - Kilkenny People Who would think a game would cause such mayhem ;-P
  7. Spot on James……karma and all that, been pulling horses out of bogs, cats down from trees ….good pr if nothing else…. outside running costs donation to real charity…. not some feckless group that spends more on admin than the cause:sneaky2:
  8. i use a boxrake on bobcat skidsteer, the bobcat landscape rake…almost the same as a harley, they work best in reverse,so either get an owl to drive or put in cameras…. stone buriers are basically rotators in reverse……. the box rake will work the soil creating a fine seed bed,is great for sculpting new layouts, especially where stumps have been removed, you can either window or pull/push stones roots etc to the headland, best of all you can start on a bit of ground that might be wet and give it a few runs leave it,do the rest of the job then come back and give another go, it is amazing how it will dry out the surface and create a perfect seed/sod bed…. Stone buriers are good but very dependent on soil type, so checkout what is used by others locally to see if they will work:thumbup1:

    Boots

been using Haix protector for the last 8 years, love the higher boots but got a pair of stein half high recently…would be hard pushed to say one was better than the other, protectors ar brill on the spikes, stein for rope…imo….either way spends much as you can,i'm in them from first light till dusk at this time of year….
  10. :thumbup:Simply put! that is ART!
  11. Imo,stihl oil into 5l cans, add the petrol at the pumps, cans het a sticker to say oil added+amount of petrol needed, sticker removed when empty. always done when needed, 6 kept full all the time, may do more for bigger jobs…. full stock rotation, never run out, i'm the only one to do this, never let the lads do it…. engines cost to much to have some **** texting ect screw up the gear…. one 5l can would potentially screw up 7 motors on any given day…. too risky….20 years no hassles, use the rounded plastic petrol containers (not the squareish ones….they are harder to pour when full)! would find it hard to justify the extra cost of premix even if it was available here,
  12. Colder than a witches tit here Jon, Stove full of lovely Ash i dropped a few weeks ago….,had sleet hail rain sun….. be lit for another month i'd say!
  13. :thumbup:Set them up …… nice lonely farmyard with only one access point….. polish the hickory …..
  14. OhGod!!!! i think that could be my Brother…… thats exactly his style…. when the oil man delivers he asks what the moisture and silt content is!
  15. Heh Heh id say theres a lot of people considering it….well the floor is steel,so more than likely sub chassis is steel….would need to be cut to length… sandblasted and painted…. can't make out if rear stanchions are drop in or welded…not hard to change…..the sides are a cinch to work on… either rivets or huck bolts…. so no real hassle, … tipping gear…maybe it is ok….have to ask the guy….it would be a cheap way out to refurbish it…. if you were organized between the whole lot you could get it turned around in 2 days maybe 3 with painting ect….word of advice though on sandblasting floors though…if they go too rough it will be difficult totipthe chipout even after painting…… we live and learn:001_rolleyes: So if he would part with the body separately you'd be off on a hack…. your time versus money saved…. if it suits your needs…. a body for a landy starts at about 3k Stg….
  16. what about this...… you could reduce the body to size….. its very easy …almost like lego…. FORD TRANSIT 190 HIGH SIDE TIPPER SPARES OR REPAIRS | eBay
  17. regulations in the pipeline from the eu will see all these made up trailers made illegal, there will be mandatory testing on all trailers in the not to distant future….either buy a homemade and be prepared toscrapit when the rules come in or hold off for a decent secondhand one from a recognized manufacturer this should be plated and have an individual chassis number, year of manufacture a,xel load limits etc…… hope this is not discouraging ……..but it is better to be forewarned ….. best of luck
  18. SPOT ON! did a job a few years ago gave a quote was accepted …. job done everyone happy, client says he will settle up i said make the check out to the co…..( he agreed by the books price by the way)…. he pullout a roll of cash and started pulling off enough to cover the bill and said "cash ok?" SO in a rare moment of clarity declined and said i could only take a check and i had emailed the invoice…. he then tried again and i said i would really prefer to have a check ask do not like cash, and then he said "ok i work for the revenue commissioners'………BLOODY HELL! was i inspired or what!! so now always try to find out what line of work clients are in……thank the gods i never employ people on the scratcher…...:
  19. running td5 crew cab defender 300tdi 130"tipper and iveco 35c14 (3l dual wheel) 06 model. for easiest fastest towing towing i take the iveco, she will cope with 5 ton NOT LEGAL….she will pull like a train, but for in around town tight hills etc the defender is ace, plus you have low box for reversing and maneuvering … one of the lads has a disco td5 it is horrible to get going…. if you go for a disco and are towing full time get a defender transfer box….. but hands down for heavy towing the iveco! one of the lads has a 5 toni eco and it is a lot stiffer suspension wise but again is a great tow….. regularly tow 4.5 ton bobcat with another ton and a half of implements ….. better than the sprinter equivalent …. dooe not rust as much good on fuel….. and best of all loads of room to spread out the gear and keep it dry……hope this helps….. oh yesiveco allowed 3.5 ton on over run brakes…...

  21. Hi guys the following are my opinions and work for me in my situation, i am never short of work and have a solid client base "trained" in the appliance of daily rates and priced work, they understand the difference and are happy for me to apply either structure as i see fit…..i am fair to them and they are fair to me. I work in the shadow of two large companies, one of them will undercut any price, but if you give good service,do what you promise and communicate well, you will establish a good client base,i used fret about pricing but have learned that if you know all your running costs: each machine, truck, worker, insurance,H&S and so on…..break it down, make a prompt card with each item priced then it is easy to quote as you survey the job, you have to allow for snafu's, weather and ground conditions, these are Your running costs… now no two operators will do the job for the same money in the same way, so you cannot put a price comparison into play…. we all have our own pricing structures…. if you are keeping customers, you are doing something right….. don't worry ,don't compare, just kick on…And make profit. On the matter of customers asking about doing better on the price…. Never budge… just throw in a little gesture or job to sweeten the pot even if it is only clearing a bit of unrelated brash …..and remember if you don't make a good impression when "chatting" with the customer you probably won't be seeing him again, Some Clients prefer a daily rate, they feel its fairer to all concerned, this is good if you have covered your prompt card, explained that you work certain hours, i.e. 8 to 4 30with 3 breaks…. ect….just so they don't think jeez they were gone at 4 30 and get pissed off…. beechwood is spot on with his comments,do your thing and don't worry about the competition……let them worry ! I sleep 7 solid hours every night, price jobs and forget them…….if they come in…. Fantastic! if they don't , then move on! I get nearly every job i quote for and do not even advertise. i Work hard and love what do,so why should worry….i'm not in an office, life is Good Enjoy it…..So should you…..
  22. This is an option but my worry would be they would cut through it, I wouldn't put anything past them to get what they want, but it would be the easier option. Last edited by Stephen Blair; 2 Hours Ago at 05:43 PM.. decent bit of plate steel and a shroud for the padlock …. hard to cut what you can't reach, most of these fellas are too witless and lazy to do battle with a decent lock up , on the subject of electric fencer…they would probably nick it as well….theiving scum!
  23. Right pain in the arse of a job;-))
  24. How about making lock boxes on the machines, stick the batteries in them and lock em up,a bit of a trial putting in and taking out batteries everyday….. steel plate box, padlock with protective cowl….. because otherwise they will pinch even dead batteries ….so just get welding…..imo……
