  1. Cercidiphyllum Japonicum smells when leaves are crushed in autumn. Smokebush does not smell like that.
  2. There was a thread on here somewhere about this mill,
  3. Do you have dogs? Lot of thefts of them too in Devon at the moment!
  4. Milling with a brand new saw is asking for some expensive repairs. Milling is very tough on a saw, and yes it should be used normally first for a good month of ringing up etc. To bed all items in. And personally I would not be thrashing a new saw flat out unloaded either. Let it tick over, blip throttle for a minimum of a tank or two....
  5. Or just get all of your timber cut at your local mill at Horam, copford sawmill:thumbup1:
  6. And where's Gary to put it back up right for you!!!
  7. Think he is wanting bit more!! Ideally wanting to know what kind of treatment to apply mick. If he aint careful he might just get some cuprinol fence spray in green on there!!
  8. OK guys need some input here!! Have painted / treated the summer house wood work and now boss is unhappy that the shingles are looking tired ! What can I treat them with? They are over a inner ply board roof structure. They are not leaking just grey, weatherd and too me look great! But boss says otherwise!!!
  9. One of our old customers had a old style but new barn extension and they used elm boards, however I recalled they where French import. If I recall, you had to pre drill holes before nailing, otherwise splits like a bitch !!! Will try and get over next week for that beech, surprised it warped under the weight of Oak in the kiln!!! Hopefully salvageable
  10. Yes as mentioned, get the HD filter kit.
  11. Looks a bit burry too, worth a shot once the dirt isoff!
  12. The biggest wych elm in these parts ain't be know where near that size. 25ft and 24" tops, mind you it was 22 yrs ago I last saw the tree in a field !
  13. As far as I can recall, wych elm don't grow that big!!
  14. Many millers prefer the older saws with the low down torque. If getting an 880 I would drop a sprocket size, speed ain't everything! Here in action by 070 on a 900mm beech. I save the 090 for bigger trees
  15. You won't get any colour until its sanded quite heavily as it looks like its been bleached from the sun for some time? Until you do that, keep thinking about its final use.
  16. Sounds like a dust allergy that some timbers cause, much like Oak causes rhinitis.
  17. Have found out that the gazebo is constructed of redwood. Currently looking dull and flat. What oils should make it look better and reinvigorate the look of the wood?
  18. High maintenance days are gone mate, had to sell the Caterham, couldn't get much chip in the back
  19. You never paid me that much, and more useful by a good margin than Kevin
  20. Need to tart up some cedar shingles for a client on there summer out house dining area. Currently just looking tired with a little lichen growing on them but unsure if need treating with anything? They look fine to me, but I know they will want them doing I also have some seating to run down and re oil. Suggestions please:001_smile:
  21. This man is just down road for on us, keep meaning to do a course. The Windsor Workshop - Chair making courses, spokeshaves, travishers
  22. Given as you say cutting beams, why on earth are using a 50" bar. Not surprising the wash board finish as the chain must be slapping up and down!! Unless of course your cutting 50" square
  23. They are not as fast, but they where not manufactured for that. They eat torque for lunch when running 60"+ bars when the 880's just give up. How many 088 have you seen in the rain forest? I rest my case. An 090/070 run 7 tooth sprockets but can be upgraded to 8 or even 9's if your in it for speed. There where several on arborsite used as hot saws!! Bit ambitious at 900 as one sold other day for 450. Bargain. Should of bought it really.
