  1. Looks like we got some fun going on, and three pages!! As it turns out, we have got the job. Man in charge was more interested in my "financial interests" rather than quibbling the costing. (Due to other reasons) But I do have an understanding of live stock behaviour having been brought up on farms and worked on them as my wife did on her grandparents farm. And as a matter of interest, the chap who helps with my fencing is a fencer by trade and cut his teeth agricultural stock fencing for sheep in NZ as a kiwi himself so we know how not to do things!! Thanks all for the input
  2. When I get up steve will bring some of that big magnolia up too. Works going quiet so next couple of weeks possibly
  3. Turned some robinia tonight! Raided my log pile, cut a loose round with my 150 and got stuck in ! Lovely colour, my turning needs some polishing though!
  4. Ok thanks, Just looked back at the quote and it was 1350, which work out at 6.22 but includes gates and furniture etc. So happy with that. Customer asking.......
  5. Thanks, my workings out above is around 6 including gates, so not far off possibly
  6. Would be interested in ideas of price please. I have quoted for a total of 217m to include a 3ft and 10ft gate, single strand of plain wire on top. Due to the ground the straining posts will be of box type construction. £1300 to include materials and labour, what is the going southern rate pm? Thanks
  7. Oh. Thought he was talking about my wine rack
  8. Sweet, surprised it pulled the 50" bar, must of been slow going? Loving that last looking wide boards, any forsale?
  9. Got a normal 441 with 25" bar. For felling recent chestnut has had a 16" on and that's sweet
  10. Had a bit of time yesterday and today and was just playing around with some off cuts from an oak done couple of years ago. Just thinking along my wine rack project, not an original idea by any means but good to play around with my draper saw bench, metabo planer, sanders and jigsaws! Pleased with the result, pain in the ass getting the angles right without the right equipment. Just holes to drill next for the bottle necks and osmo finish.
  11. its a sealed turners block with poplar stamped on it, looks like pop very pale and light. indeed blunt tools are dangerous, so its now awaiting daddy to sharpen up. as for coming up, not sure as of yet need to see my diary after the weekend.
  12. Thanks Steve, very kind. Might well do if time allows. Just fired the old girl up, runs sweet much quieter than I thought it would. Took all the tools and stocks off and gave everything a clean and put some grease on the bed as its. Bit rusty in places and knowing my shed gets a bit damp don't want it wasting away! Put the bowl blank back on, poplar and had a wurl. Either that's poplar is god damn hard or the chisels are blunt but was hard going. Will wait until my father is off holiday to get them sharpened up. Will post some pictures shortly
  13. So, after much deliberation over the years and no man cave as such, I didn't really have room for one. Some friends run a charity for kids, and the lathe was owned by a ladies husband who worked for them. He unfortunately developed dimentia and was unable to safely use it. It was moth balled and his wife gave up work at the charity to care for him. He's passed away, and soon after his wife was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. She has recently passed too. The lathe was left to the charity to sell and proceeds back to them. The lathe came back today from the charity for me to decide if I wanted it. It's a blue Myford Mystro 2 with a big box of tools and a part turned blank still attached. Cost £300 but it's nice to give to the cause, so now looks like iam going to be wittling some wood !! Will take some pictures of all the bits, and suggestions as to what I might need. What I may need is a friendly turner is West Sussex to get me started
  14. Iam sure it will be a learning experience
  15. Thanks, yes read the thread. Looks like I might of got a drill in the pipeline
  16. 070, same cc at 111 Has a concave starter, 090 has convex. Unless it's been swapped for replacement. Got a picture somewhere of my 090 & 070 together
  17. The shaft only goes in 4" max, but was always told it's what you do with it that counts Saying that I am looking for deep penertration of nearly the full depth of a wine bottle Makes me feel I am getting my monies worth!
  18. Since my request went unanswered on the wine bottle thread, I am looking for advice on which bit i should be looking at. The job at hand, hopefully is to make a rustic centre piece wine rack for our new front room . Unsure of sizes etc. But ideally will hold 6+ wine bottles. I have looked at the Milwaukee bits which have a replacement cutter but are currently out of stock, the colt version looks the dogs, but so is the price So any suggestions greatfully received Would like to make something similar to this image
  19. In 12 yrs + I've never chased, and wouldn't start.as mentioned makes you seem desperate for the work. I hate being chased by company's myself so I know what it must feel like to any potential client. If they want you they will phone. If your not getting the work look at your prices or how you come accros as a potential contractor. And if a customer asks when you can do the work never say soon, always threes weeks plus, even if your not busy or they will be cautious as to why you can do the work so quick
  20. Looking to make a similar product as a feature now the cottage renovation is coming along. Have looked for a suitable bit, with limited success. Anyone have any suggestions of suppliers and obviously it will be hard and slow going, but are the bits able to be resharpened and how long are the drive shaft on them?
  21. Contact copford sawmills if not yet done so
  22. Ouch! Sorry for your loss
  23. My 064 can also hurt the pinkies if not pulled over like a man, the 090 breaks your hand if pulled lamely!!!! This is I think down to the timing issue, and as noted above may be relevant if the fly wheel has been off and incorrectly refitted.
  24. Everyone always finds something to complain about and money is always the factor. And alot of the OP question comes down to the ability of the climber. As someone pointed out, there are very few trees that can't be dismantled by rope and harness and that comes down to the ability of the climber. I can count on three fingers how may times in my climbing history I have 'needed' a platform. Once was a monster lightning struck Oak, one was siding some paddock trees purely for speed and the other was for a large amount of shaped hedge trimming where steps would of been to slow. So man A needs to man up and climb
