  1. Hi, i have an 024 chainsaw with terminal pump failure, basically its stripped the gears of the pump piston, "it came to me with a no oiling prob" my question is can i upgrade the pump to the later pump, either with or without adjuster. See photo's of damaged pump plus pdf drawing. Any help would be appreciated. TI_40_2004 (1).pdf
  2. Hi guys, I have recently purchased 2 power units 1 was an 075ave and 1 was an 051ave (or at least that was listed in the sale advert, the first was a simple strip down clean and replace usual parts crank oil seals and bearings plus all gaskets fully assembled this beauty fired and run like a dream ticked over superbly and accelerated to max revs without missing a beat. Stripped down the 051 to have a look and found the it to was an 075ave just had the wrong filter cover on, however this proved a lot more troublesome having re-build it using the same parts again (crank seals and bearings plus all gaskets and also stripped and rebuild the carb, tried to fire her up only to find when I engaged the starter it snatched back violently, so needed to investigate further, I have invested in a Stihl test set (cost me £100 pic below) but I think it will prove well worth it, I have tested the ignition armature and the readings are as stated in the manual (1 ohm on primary and 8700 ohm on the secondary) so good to go, this is fitted with an electronic switching unit, so no testing needed as the manual stated when I did the spark test. So having cleaned everything and re-assembled her I tried to fire it up, and still have the same problem, that is when I engage the recoil starter it snatches back extremely violently. So guys, has anyone any ideas where to go from here?? I should also say that when I rebuilt the crank and bore assembly I did lightly coat all components with a light grade oil.[/color]

    Stihl 042

Stihl 042av I have a Stihl 042av chainsaw that I now need a replacement pot and piston, I unfortunately lent this to a friend so he could prune a tree in his garden, he told me that he had to cut of about 6 branches, so I topped up the fuel and oil knowing that it would cut the small amount of branches without the need for extra fuel. So having completed his job he then decided to do me a favor and cut up the branches to logs fro my wood burner, well the saw ran out of fuel, you can guess what happened next. So now i need a replacement pot and piston, has any body any idea where I can get these, I've used the normal suppliers but these are no longer made and spares are like hen's teeth.

    Air gap

Morning guy's, has any body any idea as to the air gap between the flywheel and the ignition module for a Stihl 017 chainsaw please.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion, I don't give up that easy.
  7. Thanks biggerlogs, for the suggestion, I to will buy an assortment of grease nipples and then fit the appropriate 1, I have purchased a couple of new tubes of lithium grease, problem should now be solved.
  8. Hi guys. I have a sick 017 chainsaw fitted with a 12" bar and chain, originally the saw was down on power and very hard to start, so I replaced the barrel and piston, and fitted a serviced carb, now the saw start first time every time. However the saw is still low on power, stalls the chain after about 2 thirds the way through a 10" log. I have tried adjusting the carb but makes no different the saws power (rev's through to full throttle without any hesitation. Any body any idea's as to how to improve the power output, my only thought is to replace the crank seals and bearings!!!
  9. Any ideas as to the thread size for the gearbox plug, I will need to get 1, I don't want to guess the sizes nor purchase a selection of sizes, any help would be welcome.
  10. Brilliant suggestion I think that the way forward.
  11. As a collector of all things Stihl, I can tell you that the cost of fitting a chain brake to this saw would be far to expensive, in the region of £160 +, as previously suggested you'd be better of selling it on Ebay and buying a modern saw. There are loads on Ebay and other sites, These saw date back to when men were men and health and safety wasn't heard of. I personally have several of these driving different attachments (post hole borer, core drilling machine, brush cutter, winch, planking mill, disc saw the list go's on they were very versatile, now manufacturer has come close to matching the versatility of the 08 or 08s chainsaw, not even Stihl.
  12. Help. I have a Stihl FS76 strimmer/brush cutter. I need to change or top up the grease/oil in the bevel gear box, I have done this several times in the past, but when I went to order a tube of grease from my Stihl agent he informed my that the cost has gone up to over £10 for a 80gram tube. What a rip off. Has any member any suggestions for an alternative product??
  13. Yes it holds pressure on the working saw, and shows the pressure dropping on the faulty saw (got to replace crank seals). My next item is to make a vacuum tester, Have already sourced a hand vacuum pump, it's on it's way.
  14. Hi Guy's I have today completed making a crankcase and carburetter tester, I needed to test the crankcase on my Stihl 010 and 011 chainsaws as I was having major problems with setting up the carburetor. I tried to buy one online and found browsing the web that there were loads of variants but non specifically for 2stroke chainsaws, and that stihl no longer sell there's. so having now purchased some 6mm aluminum plate plus fuel line hose a gauge and some plastic hose tails, I have made this and it works great. The whole thing hasn't cost UK£25.00:thumbup:

    Stihl 07-s

Hi guys. I have just acquired a Stihl 07-s, and am in need of recoil housing, mine has a broken forward handle mount. I have thought of having the welded, also thought of metal glue (2 part mix type). But the best answer is to replace the casting. Also anybody any idea what size handle hose is required. Any suggestions most welcome.
