  1. Was logging up a pile of scrat today ready to,put it though the log splitter and found 6 peacock butterflies amongst the logs. All in tauper and all hibernating. Carefully moved them and put them on the underside of the rafters in the new log store.
  2. I use the trend air ace half mask Works for me . Trend 'Airace' Half Mask Respirator - Machine Mart
  3. Been in twice and the shop is my kind of place, super service great help and also good crack with people who know what they are talking about because they not only run the shop but still work on the tools too.
  4. Great Service always needs to be recognised.
  5. Waspline.... Doesn't somehow have same ring to it as a Bee line:biggrin:
  6. I was treating a fence with timbercare and the buggers where following along behind stripping the stain and leaving trail lines abit like slug trails all across the fence panels. Had to remove a nest from a customers flat roof and low and behold the nest had the same colours from the nearby fences. Crafty...
  7. Wasps are always attacking our bees for the honey.
  8. Just finished building new log and kindling store. Been moving timber and logs all weekend and so far had 24 wasps in hibernation. Have to check the logs as I bring them through into the house. Same problem leaving empty bulk bags laid flat outside wasps seem to love them.
  9. Got mine from tooled up via amazon £48.95 plus postage. Tried it out and it's impressive.
  10. Wolf Garten is what I use most these days, buy the timber long handles as then you can reach areas of the borders from the lawn. Buy from world of wolf as its much cheaper then Wolf Garten web site.
  11. My hands are kna##'d after years of typing reports and more recent blowing leaves. I use boxers liniment to keep the joints warm and then wrap wrists and hands in support bandage, fleece and neoprene to keep em warm.

    Sloes

Too late up here in west lancs, try your local farm shop as they my have some.
  14. 1 website,3 pages. 1 for each sector of your business. Use key words on your web manager to promote each sector and to push them up the google search. I had a free site from yola for 12 months (putting British business on line) when I started this has now finished but the site promoted the garden service, the countryside management service and the consultancy service all on separate tabs on the same site. Worked well for me. A short summary/ synopsis at the top or header of each page is key as this shows up on google search. Good Luck in what you decide.
  15. Mares tail is a Rhizomic species and spreads via the root. It sends new shoots up and in doing so releases nitrogen to stimulate growth, the lawn sand contains nitrogen and tricks the plant into releasing its store of NItrogen all at once
  16. I've been using it all summer on a couple of gardens and it has worked so far. It needs a couple of applications to eradicate the mares tail. In tougher areas I'd've reverted to digging with a garden fork and then treating roots.
  17. Hi bud, was told this works by a couple of old guys on an allotment. I believe the lawn sand tricks the plant into releasing nitrogen that it stores, the vinegar helps break down the silica and the round up hits the plant stem. Try putting lawn sand on the plant and then crush it with your foot the plant will turn black almost immediately
  18. I've had success with a mix of lawn sand, white vinegar and roundup. You've got to crush the plant to break the silica membrane that protects it. The lawn sand tricks the plant into releasing its nitrogen store in one go and the vinegar and round up do the rest.
  19. You lucky lucky man, what a place .. We stayed over in Treshnish near Calgary Beach, Wow. Oops sorry it was Cr@p horrid place couldn't leave anything without some scumbag thinking it was theirs...::
  20. Vet might be able to nuke em all with some special potion rather than spot on. Might be worth giving him a call to explain, it's nothing to beat yourself up about. I feel, sorry for our dog as he's normally a confident little chappie but since he's been shaved and looks like Dobbie and he knows it is now a bit of a timid wreck.
  21. Just had to get our Tibetan terrier close shaved as he was full of ticks from a vist to Iona. Not a happy Dobbie, I mean doggie
  22. Just got back from Mull, what a place to see wildlife.Went for a walk on the first day saw Sea Otters, Golden Eagle, Harriers and Buzzards. What amazed me more that there was some very expensive kit just parked up at side road including ifor trailers, timber wolf and greenmech and plenty of small diggers. Must be nice to live in a place where you can leave your kit and no one goes near it.

    Yum, Yum

We keep bees it's no easy hobby, they need a lot of looking after and checking. Starting out is expensive like most hobbies but that all said its brilliant, fascinating and very rewarding. Sadly this year we lost 5 colonies to colony collapse, so no honey. We have two new colonies thanks to the network of friends we have developed from bee keeping. My only advice is join a local group as you get loads of support.
  24. Just spent two days clearing and felling mature rhodies on steep bank in lakes. Luckily I had my youngest out with me and he's also a grafter I'm 52 he's 20 it was hard graft especially yesterday in the torrential rain. It's a work ethic. Some people might not realise what's expected until its explained. Arb work may be hard for some but mostly it's a joy for me.
