  1. Jotul everytime, clean burn system with very little ash if any when burning seasoned wood. Might be a little expensive but well worth it in the long run.
  2. Thanks, Note what you all say. I have a Silky Zubat and its brilliant, will look at the Silky pole pruner as a safer option.
  3. Thanks Mate will do. Was in dealers yesterday and the MTD was by the till(like sweets in the shop). I'm looking for the smallest lightest saw and this was small. I prefer rear handled but this one had a small bar possibly 6-8 inch.
  4. I'm looking for a small light weight saw mainly for occasional ladder work. I mainly use Stihl but came across a very small very light MTD saw for £110. Are they any good or should I hold out for a Stihl?
  5. Snow is light but blowing out on the moss at Altcar. Wood burners a glowing and expecting delivery of new timber garage.
  6. Does anyone know where I can buy the Silicone or Rubber cones to put on my turned bottle stops? I've seen some in the Axminster store but they only sell them in small quantities. I could do with at least 100+
  7. Rain, drizzle, rain, drizzle. Got 4 gardens to do today. No work no pay! Now where are my Flexothanes.
  8. Hi, great work. Where do you get the rubber stoppers for the wine stoppers. Been trying to find a decent supplier for a while but no luck.
  9. I started Mac Gardensolutions back in April 2012, its the best thing Iv'e ever done. Hard graft but a sheer joy, lost 4 stone by Christmas. I have regular clients Mon-Weds. This keeps Thurs/ Fri /Sat free for Jet Washing, Landscaping and hedge /tree work/. £15-£18 per hour is the going rate here or £20-£25per visit (for up to 1.5 hours). I got two years free web site from Yola. Its well worth a look and easy to set up. I'm not a horticulturalist but I know how to cut, prune and tidy and as an ex Countryside Ranger the practical work comes in very handy for putting up fences, building decks, drystone walls etc.
  10. Anybody point me in the direction of what type of saw to buy.I was looking to go with Stihl as all my garden kit is Stihl but they've stopped production of their Carving saw.
  11. Best stay above the line, if your machine flicked the stone then best pay to get it sorted and move on. As Hedge sparrow said they may come back to you in the future and in this climate we can't afford to lose the potential customers, annoying as they may be. The client might have been having a bad day before he spoke to you, he may be uncomfortable having to let you go but its always best to leave head high. I usually string a tarp across the lower windows just in case.
  12. Sorry to hear about the eye. Invest in a pair of safety specs that you can wear under the visor. Not only saves your eyes but you can stand back visor up and look cool. In my case its more trying to look cool. Driving licence has to be your priority now, watch out for them pirates.
  13. Will do, going to split and rack them tomorrow. Still burning ones collected last year at the moment.
  14. Collected 80+ pine christmas tree bases in the past 2 days from Christmas Trees that are being recycled. Living in a house that is fired by LPG these are an annual life saver for the log burner. Happy days
  15. Thanks Pat, out of interest did you buy new or second hand?
  16. Anyone got any views on which Carving saw I should go for. I'm just starting out and was looking at either an Echo saw or Stihl.
  17. If you shoot em, they often through pure instinct get up and go. I've shot many clean through the head( through the eye) only to see them fall, lay still for a few secs and then roll or run away. Spring traps with the peanut butter is easiest but watch out for other animals. I recently had a customer who had set spring traps only to catch a hungry Blackbird by its legs. Leaving bait around not the best unless you use bait boxes.
  18. Hi Ian Keep going doing what you're doing and the job will come. Trust you've been on websites like cjs, stopdodo and the big boys like Glendale, Continental etc to see if they have any opportunities. If it makes you feel better I have 25 years experience parks and countryside management, quals coming out my ears, both in management and practical and I went for a job where I was told I was too qualified, I think it may have been code for too old. Keep going and get that driving licence. Good luck.
  19. Not good, not good at all. Sorry to hear about the break in and loss of so much kit. Hope you get up and running again soon.
